General Function

Lenoir Community College is a comprehensive institution that places primary interest on excellence in classroom instruction. The Transitional and Career Studies Department (TCS) includes High School Equivalency, Adult Basic Education, English Language Learner, and RISE (Reinforced Instruction for Student Excellence) programming. The Instructional Assistant for Transitional and Career Studies provides support for all aspects of the Division performing office duties as needed to facilitate the business of the educational unit in providing services for students.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree from a regionally accredited institution
  • Skills in keyboarding, public relations, communications, and problem-solving skills
  • Organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy are imperative
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs is required
  • Excellent customer service
  • Ability to work independently
  • Must be fluent in Spanish and English

Working Conditions

  • Typical office environment
  • Frequently sitting at a desk or workstation using a telephone, computer, keyboard, and mouse; some standing and walking
  • Must be able to lift and move 35 pounds or more
  • Ability to participate in fund-raising events with long-term exposure to heat and cold
  • Essential Functions and Responsibilities

    The duties of the Instructional Assistant include, but are not limited to :

  • Organize and maintain records and files in accordance with division standards and enter data into the ADVANSYS system
  • Utilize advanced secretarial, administrative, and clerical skills to support the Division; ensuring effective and efficient daily office operations
  • Communicate effectively with a broad range of faculty, staff, students, and external groups
  • Answer telephones, transfer calls, maintain voicemail, greet and direct students and visitors as needed
  • Audit compliance folders with accuracy to ensure adherence to NCCCS rules and guidelines
  • Distribute transit tickets and account for their use according to the requirements of the Cashier's Office
  • Monitor ticket inventory and order replacements as needed
  • Communicate with the Spanish-speaking population to answer questions, schedule pre-tests, and assist with orientation as needed
  • Assist with Adult High School Transcript requests and verifications
  • Prepare reports as requested by the Director of TCS
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of TCS or Dean of Workforce Development
