Overview

Location: The Bloom Initiative serving Connecticut (office located in Hartford, CT)

Status: Full-time

Hours Per Week: 40 minimally, including on-call as needed

Schedule: Mon - Fri; 8:30 am – 4:30 pm ( schedule may vary depending on the need)

Purpose of Position: Provide direct services, including case management, to survivors of human trafficking. Serve as the primary point of contact for survivors in coordinating necessary services and resources to address the survivors’ complex needs, including but not limited to emotional and mental health, housing/shelter, employment, medical, legal, and other supports. Assist with the onboarding of new staff. Participate in weekly program planning, drop-in center, and community education. Operate within program budget and funds; serve as a liaison for the program; and fulfill all program administrative requirements, including submission of progress reports and data entry. This position will be home-based in the Hartford, CT office, and must stand ready to serve throughout Connecticut, as directed by the supervisor. Provides program and employee supervision in the absence of the Program Coordinator.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a positive and professional representative of The Salvation Army and the Greater Hartford Area Coordinators.
  • Assess survivors initially and evaluate individual needs before proceeding with safety planning, service orientation, and support and referrals.
  • Provide comprehensive case management services to survivors of human trafficking that follow a trauma-informed, harm-reduction, survivor-centered approach. Services will include accompanying survivors to appointments, social service agencies, meetings with law enforcement, etc.; collaborating with survivors to develop a service plan and timeline based on identified goals and barriers; meeting face-to-face with survivors throughout the month to review goals and make updates or changes to the plan; maintaining weekly contact with survivors through phone calls and emails.
  • Assist survivors with accessing resources, including shelter, emotional and mental health, medical services, employment services, legal services, and others as determined by the individualized service plan.
  • Refer and connect survivors to the appropriate Corps locations for pastoral care, adult programs, youth programs, etc.
  • Track program statistics and outcomes, enter data, and draft and submit reports as requested.
  • Assist with the onboarding and training of new AHT staff.
  • Assist with the recruitment, training, and coordination of volunteers to assist with outreach.
  • Attend all anti-trafficking councils, committees, and community meetings as requested.
  • Attend case review meetings biweekly with the AHT Coordinator and staff meetings with the supporting supervisor(s) monthly or as requested.
  • Attend relevant trainings, seminars, conferences, and other professional development opportunities as instructed.
  • Engage and support the community by participating in outreach efforts to increase human trafficking awareness and victim identification, including making presentations on the program and human trafficking issues as requested by the supervisor.
  • Must be on-call for one week per month, subject to change.
  • Assist with developing and implementing an outreach plan involving awareness campaigns and drop-in efforts.
  • Prepare and maintain quality case notes and documentation for any contact made and service provided.
  • Assist with data collection and outcomes for grants.
  • Coordinate and deliver training.
  • Provide supervision of AHT staff in the absence of the Program Coordinator.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in social work or a related social services field; three years of case management experience required.
  • Previous supervisory experience required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to maintain ethical conduct in accordance with organizational policy and carry out business in a manner consistent with the organization's mission, values, and policies.
  • Ability to work independently on assigned duties and willingness to seek and accept supervision as needed.
  • Being bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus.
  • Computer proficiency required, particularly in Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including empathetic listening.
  • Excellent organizational and case file/documentation management skills.
  • Experience in public speaking and/or speaking to small groups preferred.
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn a trauma-informed, harm-reduction, and survivor-centered approach.
  • Linguistic and cultural competency to holistically serve survivors of human trafficking.
  • Must complete KeepSAfe and other training requirements upon hire.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Prior experience of at least two years working with survivors of human trafficking or other victims of crime preferred. Experience should include providing direct service to underserved populations. Survivors of human trafficking are encouraged to apply.
  • Unquestioned confidentiality with sensitive personal information.
  • Working knowledge of the functions of community organizations, social services, public benefits, health care systems, and related human services.
  • Adhere to guidelines for staff responsibilities as found in the Salvation Army’s Employee Manuals.
