Job Summary
Provides assessment, treatment, planning, education, communication, and demonstration of leadership to address the needs of patients and families. Fosters a positive working relationship among professional and ancillary staff.
Job Functions
- A. Plan, prepare and carry out individually designed programs of physical treatment to maintain, improve, or restore physical functioning, alleviate pain and prevent physical dysfunction in patients.
- B. Perform and document an initial exam, review the medical record to help determine diagnosis and physical therapy treatment plan.
- C. Evaluate the effects of treatment at various stages and adjust treatments to achieve maximum benefit.
- D. Administer manual exercises, massage and/or traction to help relieve pain, increase the patient's strength, and decrease or prevent deformity and disability.
- E. Administer treatment involving application of physical agents, using equipment, moist packs, ultrasound machines, and electrical stimulation.
- F. Instruct the patient and family in a home exercise program.
- G. Discharge patient from physical therapy when goals are achieved or projected outcomes have been attained and provide appropriate follow-up care or referrals.
- H. Teach/supervise physical therapy students as well as those in other health professions.
- I. Evaluate, fit, and adjust prosthetic and orthotic devices and recommend modification to orthotist.
- J. Maintains patient records per hospital policy and maintains all required prescriptions and signatures while adhering to HIPAA guidelines.
