We are seeking a Public Health Business Intelligence Analyst , Bloomberg School of Public Health (BSPH) who will be responsible for data analytics and additional support of performance measures, ongoing measurement, data collection, reporting, data visualization, and information dissemination. They are subject matter data experts that work with IT solutions to solve high priority organizational analytic problems in their work area, generating reports for the Dean of the School and other high-level leaders. Works under the supervision of BSPH leadership in the Offices of Academic Affairs and collaborates with, IDARE, Research, and/or Faculty Offices. This supervision maybe through a matrixed or direct reporting structure.

The Public Health Business Intelligence Analyst will work on projects related to data cleaning, collation, analysis, and presentation as part of the BSPH institutional research team. Goals are communicated in solution or project goal terms. Systems are developed, and reports prepared, for the BSPH Dean, Executive Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, and Vice Deans for Research and Faculty and IDARE. Serves as the primary point of knowledge regarding the interface of multiple data sources across the institution and responds rapidly to requests for reports and/or analyses using those data. Partners and collaborates with other analytic teams and data warehouse/software engineers.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Defines, maps, and collates data from all school and university data systems including academic, research, and faculty databases.
  • Supports the decision making of the school’s leadership by independently extracting and analyzing school data and presenting findings.
  • Creates, upgrades, and maintains a “living” dashboard of data based on leadership needs and ongoing/common data requests for the school.
  • Answers technical and data related questions from school administrators, staff, students, and faculty. Draws upon many sources of school and peer information and evaluation.
  • Collaborates with other University-wide institutional research staff and administrators on university requested reports and initiatives.
  • Identifies school’s sources for information and coordinates reporting efforts and accuracy of data.
  • Independently analyzes data from output and is responsible for reports pertaining to demographics and trends of the school’s academic mission, research enterprise, and faculty priorities.
  • Writes narrative reports and creates original charts, graphs and tables utilizing graphics, computer code, and data visualization software.
  • Works with internal and external sources to monitor and maintain data integrity
  • Works closely with university and school information technology and institutional research offices to investigate potential data issues
  • Identifies, researches, and resolves technical problems independently.
  • Ensures that the use of data enhance School-level decision-making capabilities

Special Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Requires a thorough knowledge of higher education operations – in areas of research, students, faculty, staff and overall university operations.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the interrelationship of academic, research, human resource, and Information Systems applications.
  • Ability to collate data from multiple sources, write code to generate queries and create automated processes, and develop data visualizations using RShiny, Microsoft Power BI, R and/or similar platforms.
  • Knowledge of data warehouse and data management principles and processes and database development. Experience with data quality, data profiling, metadata management and reporting.
  • Goal oriented and action-focused, pragmatic and self-disciplined, organized with ability to facilitate and interact effectively with upper levels of management.
  • Ability to plan, organize, direct, implement and evaluate processes to lead projects and manage resources to achieve desired result.
  • Strong programming, analytical, and computational skills.
  • Ability to convey technical methods, approaches and plans to audience of varying degrees of technical understanding including academic stakeholders, external constituents, and technical team.
  • Must be detail-oriented and accurate.
  • Ability to problem solve in a fast paced, high dynamic and complex environment.
  • Awareness of the need for timely communication, ability to identify potential barriers and strategies, and ability to synthesize and integrate information.
  • Knowledge of and ability to use multiple information systems and software including PowerBI and R.
  • Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet software, and database structures.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Two years of related experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional experience may substitute for required education to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in related discipline.
  • Knowledge in the assigned application as well as the platform on which it runs.

The listed salary range represents the minimum and maximum Johns Hopkins University offers for this position, based on a good faith estimate at the time of posting. Actual compensation will vary depending on factors such as location, skills, experience, market conditions, education, and internal equity.
