Primary Purpose :
The Research Data Scientist develops methods and tools for gathering, storing, manipulating, analyzing, and displaying research and clinical data. The position supports design and implementation of tools and process analyses from a variety of research and clinical testing methods with the goal to advance the state-of-the-art in clinical diagnosis, treatment, data analysis, and reporting. This position will address the critical needs of research and clinical organizations seeking scalability and flexibility for a variety of applications in the field of laboratory medicine.

Essential Functions :
Creates, refines and validates software, data analysis processes, statistical, and data visualization tools.
Implements and maintains computational tools for data mining and data integration.
Develops enhanced data collection procedures to include information that is relevant for building analytic systems and reporting clinical results.
Develops new tools to aid in the analysis of assay quality metrics, interpretation, and reporting.
Develops novel methods/algorithms, and extends, adapts and improves existing methods as needed.
Develops analysis approaches in support of clinical applications.
Works effectively with other scientists, programmers, engineers, and researchers to implement novel or adapt existing approaches to data analysis and reporting.
Supports transition of developed software and analysis into clinical practice.
Provides consultative support to clinical and research staff, pathology residents, Medical Directors and others as assigned.
Other duties as assigned.
Physical And Other Requirements :
Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist.
Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
Mobility: The person in this position needs to occasionally move between work sites and inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
Communicate: Frequently and effectively communicate with others.
PPE: Biohazard laboratory environment that requires use of personal protective equipment in accordance with CDC and OSHA regulations and company policies.
ARUP Policies and Procedures: To conduct self in compliance with all ARUP Policies and Procedures.
Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

- Master's Degree or better in Life Sciences
- PhD or better in Life Sciences
Required
- Masters' Degree in a Life or Health or Lab Science field, Computer Science, or relevant technical field
- OR a Bachelor’s degree in a Life or Health or Lab Science field, Computer Science, or relevant technical field with a minimum of 7 years of related experience
- Demonstrated experience with statistics
- Ability to collaborate in a cross-functional environment
- Experience in data mining or machine learning
- Five (5) years’ experience working with one of the following programming languages: Python, Java, C#, Javascript, R
- Two (2) years’ experience with a machine learning framework such as PyTorch, Tensorflow, Keras, JAX or similar
- Demonstrated experience working in Linux environment
- PhD Degree in a Life or Health or Lab Science field, Computer Science, or relevant technical field
- Two (2) years of experience in software development
- Two (2) years of previous scientific programming or tool development experience
- Experience working with the following technologies: Bash or similar linux shell, git/github, SQL/NoSQL databases
