Summary Description
The Senior Estimator will accurately estimate the cost, time, material, labor, and equipment required to secure new contracts, ensuring the company's profitability and success. This role involves responding to customer and market needs with urgency, composure, and accuracy to secure profitable contracts.
Essential Functions
- Review proposal specifications and drawings to determine the scope of work and required estimate contents.
- Attend prebid meetings to gather necessary information.
- Prepare discipline estimates by calculating complete takeoff of the scope of work.
- Oversee takeoff performed by Estimators to ensure comprehensive scope inclusions.
- Develop proposals including scope-specific inclusions, clarifications, qualifications, and exclusions.
- Coordinate, obtain, and review vendor and subcontractor quotations to ensure proper scope, specification compliance, and competitive pricing.
- Review design options and recommend the best solution based on cost, engineering quality, or material availability.
- Incorporate historical data from purchase orders, subcontracts, and productivity analysis reports into unit and man-hour figures.
- Track awarded contracts and manage estimating/pricing for extra work items, change orders, and procuring materials.
- Utilize estimating system to compile accurate bids.
- Interpret computerized cost data and systems to determine budgetary allowances and soft costs.
- Organize and manage handoff estimates to Project Managers for multiple jobs.
- Maintain files of working documents and data as backup for estimate figures.
- Ensure bid compliance with public agency bidding processes.
- Incorporate company safety policies in bidding estimates.
- Support other department personnel as required, including preparing estimates in other disciplines.
- Perform other duties as requested by management.
- Comply with all company rules, policies, and standards , including safety rules.
- Punctuality and adherence to the work schedule.
- Attention to detail and the ability to focus and multitask to meet deadlines.
- High level of accuracy and ability to QC own work and the work of others.
- Superior computer skills and advanced math skills.
- Strong organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and reasoning abilities .
- Ability to handle a wide spectrum of work and work cooperatively with team members.
- Professional communication skills and the ability to conceptualize the final product.
- Energetic work ethic to execute all responsibilities effectively.
