This SME will play a crucial role in guiding the transformation of legacy systems, supporting technologies including IBM Assembly Language Code (ALC), C, C , Java, CICS, DB2, COBOL, JCL, and others. A strong background in agile and scrum methodologies is essential for integrating these legacy technologies into modern, agile workflows. Responsibilities:
- Serve as a technical expert on legacy systems (ALC, COBOL, CICS, DB2) and modern programming languages (C, C , Java), providing detailed guidance on system and application modernization.
- Apply program management controls to track and manage program status, execution, costs, and schedules effectively.
- Collaborate with program and project teams to develop a phased roadmap, identifying an optimal starting point and guiding the project through to completion.
- Work in an agile/scrum environment, contributing to sprint planning, backlog refinement, and project prioritization to maintain focus on modernization goals.
- Partner with stakeholders to assess existing systems and applications, identifying key modernization areas, technical risks, and dependencies.
- Drive technical planning and documentation efforts, presenting modernization strategies and roadmaps to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Lead and mentor development teams on best practices for working with both legacy and modern technologies in an agile context, ensuring compliance with project standards.
- Establish and implement key performance metrics and reporting mechanisms to track the progress of modernization efforts.
- Act as the primary technical escalation point for any issues related to legacy application modernization within an agile framework.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Experience: 10 years of experience in application development, with hands-on experience in legacy systems (ALC, COBOL, JCL, CICS, DB2) and modern languages (C, C , Java) and 5 years in agile/scrum project environments.
- Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of IBM mainframe environments and modernization techniques for transitioning from legacy systems. Proficiency in CICS, DB2, COBOL, Java, and agile tools (JIRA, Confluence, etc.) is essential.
- Agile/Scrum Experience: Proven success in agile/scrum environments, with a deep understanding of how to integrate legacy systems into modern workflows. Certification in Scrum (CSM, SAFe, or similar) is a plus.
- Project Management: Experience with project/program management, including establishing and maintaining controls, tracking program metrics, and reporting status.
- Leadership: Ability to guide cross-functional teams, with strong mentorship skills and experience leading modernization initiatives.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex concepts to both technical and business audiences.
- Certifications in PMP, Scrum, or ITIL.
- Previous experience working on government or large enterprise modernization projects.
- Knowledge of industry standards, tools, and methodologies for application modernization in agile environments.
