Position Overview
The Interim Music Director will lead the church’s music ministry during a transitional period. This individual will oversee and direct the musical aspects of worship services, ensuring they align with the church's mission and vision. The Interim Music Director will serve as the primary music leader, providing guidance and direction for musicians and choirs, while also fostering a vibrant, spiritually enriching worship experience.
The position of music director includes (but is not limited to) the following responsibilities and activities:
- Work under Pastor’s leadership to help provide a cohesive experience for Sunday worship
- Select and prepare a unique prelude, postlude, offertory, and choral anthem for each Sunday service to fit Pastor’s weekly sermons
- Accompany the congregation in singing hymns selected by the Pastor for Sunday services
- Be available for Sunday worship services, 9:30-11:00am, to provide musical accompaniment in a fashion that helps promote full participation from the congregation
- Lead the senior choir, including choir rehearsals, to help prepare for Sunday worship
- Provide musical accompaniment for special services which would include funerals, weddings, Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday
Qualifications
Experience:
- Previous experience in leading church music programs, and choirs preferred. Experience with both traditional and contemporary worship styles is desirable.
Skills:
- Proficient in playing at least the piano or organ; being able to play both is most desirable; additional instruments such as guitar also desirable
- Strong organizational skills to provide leadership of the choir, including the ability to schedule, plan, and lead rehearsals
- Good communication and interpersonal skills to effectively work well with a variety of church members and staff
Spiritual:
- Sympathetic to the Christian faith and the church’s mission
- Ability to integrate music with a spiritually enriching worship experience.
Education:
- Degree in music, theology, or related field is desirable, but not required
Salary range: $150-200 per week
Instruments: Allen electronic organ and Yamaha piano (both well maintained and tuned on a yearly basis)
