GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIESThis position provides professional social work support to citizens in the library. Work involves developing and providing direct services and appropriate referrals; providing information and training to library staffs; representing the library system with area social service agencies, governmental entities and other relevant organizations; and supervising social work interns from local universities.ESSENTIAL DUTIESWorks directly with patrons needing social service assistance by providing information, support, and referrals to appropriate organizations.Creates partnerships with area service providers, governmental entities, universities and other organizations. Develops appropriate internship opportunities through local universities. Participates in community outreach events.Serves as a resource for library staff and interns. Models effective techniques for working with patrons experiencing mental health, substance abuse, unstable housing, or exclusion issues.Provides guidance to Social Work interns. Work with universities to develop appropriate internship opportunities. Recruits and selects interns through established protocols and procedures. Continuously works with interns; completes required evaluations for universities.Participates in ongoing professional development activities at least two times per year and maintains good standing as social work professional.OTHER IMPORTANT OR MARGINAL DUTIESNone. Employee must be autonomous. The supervisor makes assignments by defining objectives, priorities and deadlines, and assists the employee with unusual situations that do not have clear objectives. The employee plans and carries out successive steps and resolves problems and deviations in accordance with instructions, policies, and accepted practices. The supervisor reviews the work for technical adequacy and conformance with practice and policy. Supervision of OthersNone. INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL CUSTOMER CONTACTEmployee has regular and frequent contact with internal staff and external customers. The purpose of the contact typically involves answering inquiries regarding work processes and providing information. EQUIPMENT AND TOOLS USEDPersonal computer, word processing/spreadsheet software, and a vehicle. WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDSWork is performed mainly indoors at a desk. Position may require walking for periods of time and/or standing for long periods of time. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIESKnowledge of principles and practices of social work. Crisis intervention and counseling techniques. Community resources and programs available to clients with identified needs. Laws, codes and regulations related to the position. Analyzing, interpreting and applying laws, codes, regulations and procedures relating to social work. Assessing cases appropriately and utilizing the most appropriate community and welfare resources to provide effective client services. Knowledge of library services. Knowledge of supervisory techniques. Skill in organizing and directing the work of others. Skill in communicating courteously, efficiently and effectively over the phone and in person with a diverse population. Ability to resolve problems as it relates to public or staff. Ability to develop and implement programs. Ability to communicate clearly orally and in writing. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSRequires graduation from an accredited four year college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Social Work and two years of related experience, preferably as a social worker or counselor in a library, government, non-profit, or school setting; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. A Master's degree in Social Work is preferred. Necessary Special Requirements: Must possess a valid Florida Driver's license and have a favorable driving record.All Leon County employees (regular full-time and part-time, OPS, and PRN) are required to work before, during and after a Declared Local State of Emergency (DLSOE). Participation is considered a condition of employment. Selection Guidelines: Formal application, rating of education and experience; oral interview and reference check. FLSA STATUS: Position is Exempt. Position currently meets the administrative/professional exemption, salary test, and acts with discretion and independent judgment in the performance of work assignments. Position is supervisory.
