Position Summary: Sr. Estimator / Project Engineer’s prepare and submit estimates and bid packages to our clients and General Contractors. Once awarded, the Sr. Estimator / Project Engineer assumes the role of Project Engineer and works with an assigned Project Manager throughout the project and through completion.
The responsibilities of the Sr. Estimator’s / Project Engineer’s go beyond ordinary estimating and project engineering to include training and helping supervise estimators with less knowledge and experience. A highly organized approach is required so strict deadlines are met. The position involves managing and prioritizing work and maintaining open lines of communication with internal and external parties. Accommodating change, maintaining a strong sense of urgency, and working well under pressure are vital to the position.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Review construction documents and determine scope of work pertaining to commercial floor covering projects.
• Read, understand and analyze project drawings and specifications.
• Prepare accurate estimates of costs for material and labor based on construction documents, contract bids, quotations, descriptions of work from sales staff, schematic drawings and specifications.
• Use flooring take-off software (MeasureSquare) to generate drawings to support quotations, shop drawings, scope diagrams, phasing documents, work orders, and installation instructions.
• Identify omissions and inaccuracies in plans.
• Maintain estimating computer files, including bid documents and plans.
• Understand and write change orders as needed.
• Demonstrate computer and writing skills (proficiency with MS Office products).
• Manage multiple projects / estimates and present a high level of organization to meet strict deadlines.
• Continually organize (and reorganize) workload in a logical, priority-based sequence.
• Proactively communicate internally and externally using courteous and professional techniques (written and verbal).
• Exhibit a track record of self-motivation, reliability, and success.
• Interact positively with a diverse group of industry professionals.
• Enter project details in the computer system to create purchase orders, track progress, and measure the relative success of each project.
• Handle other duties and tasks as assigned.

• Associate’s degree in Construction Management or equivalent career experience.
• Strong understanding of estimating software (MeasureSquare, RFMS, Callidus).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Basic math functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
• Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
• Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Product familiarity and basic installation knowledge of floor covering is required.
• Basic PC skills and Microsoft Office experience.
• Ability to read and interpret construction documents such as plans and specifications, construction contracts, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or staff members of the organization.
