What are the responsibilities and job description for the Substitute Bus Driver position at Leroy Springs & Company INC?
OVERVIEW
Under regular supervision safely drives bus/van to transport children and staff to and from designated locations and activities.
KEY FUNCTIONS
- Obeys all traffic signals and laws that govern the operation of buses; uses precautions necessary to avoid accidents
- Instructs passengers in safety precautions and practices
- Inspects and maintains cleanliness and maintenance of bus/van on a daily basis (water, gas, oil, and mechanical)
- Maintains operational records; assures bus meets maintenance schedules
- Reports mechanical problems immediately to appropriate personnel
- All other duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES
- Knowledge of all current motor and pedestrian laws and safe driving techniques
- Map reading skills
- Ability to operate a bus in a safe and economical manner
- Ability to diagnose mechanical problems and check repair work
- Must be reliable, dependable, professional and trustworthy
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. - Must be 18 years of age or older
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Ability to be a qualified driver per DOT regulations: Holds a current / valid SC Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a P and S endorsement and current medical certificate, Clearinghouse consent form/account, passed DOT drug test
- Must possess and maintain a safe driving record
- Previous bus or other heavy duty vehicle driving experience preferred
- Successful completion of Defensive Driving Course (DDC) preferred
- Current CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse prevention training; will train
REPORTING TO THIS POSITION
No supervisory responsibilities
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Work is typically performed sitting for extended periods of time; however, standing, walking, bending, stooping, reaching, climbing stairs to enter and exit vehicle, and lifting equipment and objects weighing up to twenty-five pounds is required on an intermittent basis. Requires normal range of motor skills, hearing and eyesight. Daily exposure to inconsistent weather conditions such as sun, heat, or rain.
