Job Summary: An Expediter, often referred to as an expo, is a key position in the hospitality industry, responsible for communicating orders and information between the front of the house and the back of the house, making sure that food is cooked in the right order, quickly and presented to the customer as beautifully as possible.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Order Coordination:
- Collaborate closely with kitchen staff, bartenders, and servers to ensure accurate and timely preparation and delivery of food and beverages.
- Confirm order details, modifications, and any special requests with the kitchen and bar.
Quality Control:
- Inspect the presentation and quality of food and beverages to ensure they meet the established standards before being sent to customers.
- Verify that each order aligns with the customer's specifications and any dietary restrictions.
Timing:
- Coordinate the timing of food and beverage orders to maintain a consistent and efficient service flow.
- Manage the pacing of courses and drinks to avoid delays or overwhelm in the kitchen and bar.
Communication:
- Act as a liaison between the kitchen, bar, and front-of-house staff, conveying important information and updates regarding orders.
- Relay any special requests or customer feedback to the appropriate team members.
Organizational Skills:
- Maintain a comprehensive understanding of the menu and beverage offerings
- Prioritize and organize multiple orders simultaneously, ensuring they are delivered promptly.
Problem Solving:
- Address and resolve any discrepancies or issues with orders before they reach the customer.
- Handle miscommunications or mistakes efficiently and professionally.
Cleanliness and Organization:
- Keep the expediting area, including the bar station, clean, organized, and stocked with necessary supplies.
- Monitor and manage inventory of essential items used in the expediting process.
Team Collaboration:
- Foster a positive and collaborative working environment by working closely with kitchen, bar, and serving staff.
- Provide support during peak periods and contribute to overall restaurant efficiency.
Customer Service
- Ensure a high level of customer satisfaction by overseeing the accurate and timely delivery of orders.
- Address customer concerns or inquiries with professionalism and courtesy.
Health and Safety Standards:
- Follow all health and safety protocols and guidelines to maintain a safe and clean working environment.
- Adhere to food safety regulations and guidelines for the proper handling of food and beverages.
