Community Impact Lead Coordinator – Letcher County
Context
To achieve transformative change for children in rural America, we seek to engage local stakeholders and collaborate in new ways. Save the Children has incorporated results-based collective impact approaches into our community engagement strategy to complement our programs with a holistic approach that activates, aligns and leverages community assets in pursuit of larger-scale, population-level results.
Community impact supports communities in building sustainable cross-sector partnerships that improve community-level results for children from cradle to career, beginning with a deep focus on kindergarten readiness, third grade reading proficiency and/or fifth grade math proficiency. This approach includes establishing local partnerships, developing local leaders, and providing resources for conducting results-based action planning and strategy implementation to achieve and sustain progress for children.
Organizational Overview
The Letcher County Community Impact leadership group meets regularly to review community data, generate ideas to improve population level kindergarten readiness and third grade reading proficiency and develop plans for community events and educational opportunities that will create lasting change.
Position Overview
In order for the Letcher County Community Impact Lead Coordinator to achieve its ambitious mission, a dynamic and detail-oriented coordinator is required. The Community Impact Lead Coordinator will be part of a small team responsible for driving the Community Engagement’s work forward, in particular supporting day-to-day communications, day-to-day administration, planning meetings, community engagement, and data functions.
Responsibilities
The Community Impact Lead Coordinator will provide day-to-day support and facilitation of the Letcher County Community Impact effort. Key responsibilities include:
Working With Community Partners:
- Ensuring collaborative groups are comprised of diverse-sector representatives who are committed to improving educational outcomes and bring a variety of perspectives
- Facilitating a process that ensures a reliable data source is being used to support community needs and track outcomes
- Maintaining a list of collaborative group participants and upcoming events
- Organizing outreach for upcoming community events
- Coordinating research and other activities with collaborative and leadership partners to minimize redundancies and to align strategies and actions, including conducting individual outreach and education as needed
- Working with others to update outreach strategy as new needs emerge
- Working with collaborators to identify other like-minded and/or related projects and coalitions to have a full understanding of the current landscape of local and regional activities and resources, and integrating their work into our processes
- Securing letters of support from elected officials and community partners
- Building and maintaining relationships with community partners
Strategic coherence:
- Identifying current implementation challenges and developing comprehensive solutions to address them
- Providing support to partner organizations in aligning their work to the Shared Vision (e.g., identifying opportunities for program work to support specific goals)
- Acting as a neutral facilitator and helping the group come to a unified decision about direction among collaborative groups and leadership groups
Communications:
- Communicating the objectives and goals developed by the collaborative and leadership groups to the community and potential partners, including sharing the Shared Vision or call to action
- Facilitating ongoing communication between collaborative and leadership partners by hosting regular meetings and coordinating regular email updates to ensure alignment of activity
- Creating and maintaining a documented list of collaborative work
- Creating and maintaining meeting notes that include summaries, action commitments, action plans and data referenced
- Collecting events and actions planned and coordinated by the collaborative group including event or action summary, photos, anecdotes, key participants, media stories, and community impact
Fund development and management:
- Working with Save the Children’s Community Impact Lead Associate to identify potential funding sources, resources and partnership opportunities to support the collaborative and leadership group’s goals and priorities
Safeguarding:
- Collaborate with Save the Children’s Community Impact Lead Associate to foster an understanding of our safeguarding policies through ongoing training and technical assistance.
- Ensure consistent reporting of safeguarding risks and incidents; strong methodology in the field for managing risks and following reporting protocols; supplying proper documentation in support of incident reports as needed; and collecting data on safeguarding risks and efforts to mitigate risks in the program environment.
- Make intentional, regular efforts to remain up to date on key local and state child-welfare policies and reporting protocols.
- Follow all key local and state child-welfare policies and reporting protocols, as provided by the Save the Children Lead Associates.
- Complete Save the Children required Safeguarding training.
Requisite Qualifications
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:
- A minimum of 3 years' work experience including 1 or more years of proven community outreach and coordination experience
- Demonstrated success in building and maintaining relationships with senior executives (e.g., superintendents, mayors, organizational or agency directors)
- The presence to inspire confidence and passion in external audiences and to build effective relationships with a range of stakeholders
- Advanced project management skills
- Ability to thrive in a fluid, unstructured, entrepreneurial environment
- Flexibility and the ability to work autonomously as well as take direction as needed
- Commitment to collective impact concepts, a results-based approach and centering equity in partners’ collaborative work
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
- Strong community engagement and facilitation skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral)
- Existing relationships with, or ability to build relationships with, a cross-sectoral range of stakeholders in the local or regional area, including senior executives

Compensation for the position is competitive and commensurate with experience.
