About Us: 

Competitive triathletes and passionate bakers, Pam Weekes and Connie McDonald left their careers to open a small bread shop in New York City in 1995 — Levain Bakery.  

One day, they baked a BIG chocolate chip walnut cookie as energy for triathlon training. At Levain, a batch of these 6-ounce cookies flew off the shelves, and an icon was born. The cozy shop on West 74th Street became a neighborhood favorite and a destination for epicurious visitors from around the world, hungry for “the cookie.”  

From the start, Pam, Connie, and the team baked everything fresh on-site each day, donating the day’s leftovers to charity — and we still do, nearly 30 years later. Today, Levain has bakeries across the country (with more to come!), plus ecommerce gift boxes to treat cookie lovers in every state.

THE ROLE: COMMISSARY PRODUCTION SUPERVISOR (LONG ISLAND CITY) 

The Commissary Production Supervisor will oversee daily cookie dough production for all of Levain’s east coast locations and ensures each and every one of our world-famous cookies is the absolute best quality possible. The Commissary Production Supervisor coaches and motivates team members to achieve production standards in quality, efficiency and productivity.   The ideal candidate has high emotional intelligence and a knack for operating in a fast-paced, high-volume environment. A sweet tooth and passion for Levain’s products and culture are a must!

Job Responsibilities Include: 

• Manage and direct production staff to achieve quality, labor and product standards. 
• Support Food Safety Program by ensuring that all GMP’s, Allergen, Sanitation and Critical Control Points are followed by all personnel. 
• Complete all documentation required to verify that all elements of the Food Safety Program are followed. 
• Support Employee Safety program by ensuring that all personnel work in a safe manner.  Identify and take action to prevent unsafe practices or situations that could compromise employee safety. 
• Support the Quality and Customer Service groups in areas such as customer complaints, process validation, process risk analysis, and training. 
• Demonstrate superior communications practices to create an environment of accountability and clarity with missions, projects and deliverables. 
• Collect and input production results in MRP system.  Resolve or account for all deviations.  The utmost importance is placed on accuracy and timeliness. 
• Manage and direct staff on the execution of projects, product testing or other non-standard activities as assigned by the Production Manager or General Manager. 
• Create, nurture and support a spirit of high quality and food safety. 
• Inspect, troubleshoot or assess any production or equipment problems. Document and communicate any issues to the Production Manager or General Manager. 
• Supervise maintenance and shipping personnel or processes. 
• Supervise all sanitation activities to ensure all SSOP’s are followed and documented. 
• Work collaboratively and support our Ecomm business as directed. 

Requirements: 

• Two or more years in Food Manufacturing Supervision.  At least five years in total experience in a professional food manufacturing operation. 
•  Experience working with (MRP) or manufacturing resource planning software.  
•  HACCP certification and experience supporting a HACCP program preferred. 
•  Previous experience with GFSI, SQF and USDA audits preferred. 
• Understanding of Food Safety regulations, laws, and best practices. 
• Competency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel. 
• Ability to work, days, afternoons, evenings and weekends as dictated by seasonal or business needs. 
• Experience in workplace safety programs and their application. 
• Fluency in Spanish is required. 

Compensation: 

$70,000 - $80,000 plus 15% quarterly bonus potential
