JOB PURPOSE: The Environmental Services Shift Supervisor directly oversees the activities of assigned
Environmental Services staff to ensure that assigned areas are properly cleaned and maintained in
accordance with requisite standards of quality and safety. The Supervisor also assumes responsibility for
care of equipment, control of supplies, and counseling of employees. Responsible for making decisions
regarding staffing of EVS personnel for appropriate shift to ensure adequate coverage.
MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:
None
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
One (1) year of previous Environmental Services and/or healthcare experience required. Previous
supervisory experience is preferred, and equivalent education may be substituted for experience.
MINIMUM LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED BY LAW:
Valid US Driver's License preferred
ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or equivalent preferred. Associate or bachelor's degree is highly preferred.
Registered/Certified Executive Housekeeper (REH/CEH), Certified Healthcare Environmental Services Professional (CHESP) preferred. Also, a valid Georgia driver's license is required for this position.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide leadership and direct supervision to Environmental Services staff during the assigned shift
• Coordinate and adjust daily staff schedules to ensure complete coverage, including stepping in for other managers when necessary
• Perform routine rounds and inspections across hospital and outside account areas; extensive foot travel required
• Oversee and support terminal cleaning of discharged patient rooms; ensure adherence to infection prevention protocols
• Understand and ensure compliance with daily inpatient cleaning procedures
• Train, coach, and evaluate team members; provide on-the-spot guidance as needed
• Maintain a hands-on leadership style—work alongside staff to support and model expectations
• Communicate effectively with patients and families to provide reassurance and ensure satisfaction with cleanliness
• Serve as an advocate for patients and families in cleanliness and safety matters
• Collaborate and interact professionally with multidisciplinary leadership teams across the hospital
• Demonstrate flexibility and professionalism when adapting to schedule or workload changes
• Utilize hospital communication systems (Rovers, bed tracking, etc.) and maintain written reports as required
• Possess or be willing to gain knowledge of medical/hospital cleaning standards and compliance requirements
• Ensure that all work is completed in accordance with hospital policies and Joint Commission standards
• Maintain working knowledge of basic computer systems for communication, tracking, and documentation
