The Sandra and Leon Levine Jewish Community Center is a non-profit, social service agency founded upon Jewish ethics and values. The Center provides and initiates diversified social, educational, recreational and cultural programs within a Jewish setting. The JCC is a partner in serving the community, is affiliated with the JCC Association of North America and a beneficiary agency of the Jewish Federation of Greater Charlotte.
POSITION PURPOSE:
The JTeam After-School Staff is responsible for providing for the social, emotional and educational needs of each child and the group as a whole during the school year.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Under the supervision of the J-Team Lead Staff and Youth Programs Manager, J-Team Junior Staff are responsible for assisting in the planning, conducting, and supervising a variety of recreational activities for campers in Kindergarten through 5th grade in a after-school setting, as well as assisting in the care and supervision of the children assigned to their group.
- Participate in staff training prior to the beginning of the school year.
- Assist the supervision of a classroom and attend to their needs.
- Supervise health, safety and activities of after-school children.
- Follow weekly schedule of events and special activities.
- Teach/assist in all areas.
- Take initiative to analyze and solve problems.
- Assist in organizing, collecting and transporting necessary supplies and children to extracurricular activities.
- Assist in the clean-up of all activities.
- Assist in supervising and participating in crafts, games, sports and other after-school activities, as well as assisting children with homework.
- Participate in parent related programs such as JTEAM Cookout, JTEAM Channukah Celebration, and JTEAM Picnic.
- Attend and contribute to weekly staff meetings and trainings.
- Supervise, encourage and teach new staff as assigned.
- Report any behavior problems to Youth Programs Manager.
- Any other responsibilities as assigned by Youth Programs Manager.
- Available to work all-day programs such as School’s Out J’s In as well as Winter Break and Spring Break Camps.
Requirements
- Entering 11th grade by August.
- Child care and/or leadership experience.
- Good communication skills and ability to work well with children.
- Good character and integrity.
- Positive physical and mental health.
- The desire to work with children in a after-school setting.
- Commit to building a safe, child-focused community.
- Enthusiasm, sense of humor, and patience.
- Ability to take guidance and supervision.
- Activity skills and the ability to transmit/teach skills to children.
