POSITION PURPOSE:
The Counselor is responsible for assisting the Senior Counselor in providing for the social, emotional and educational needs of each camper and the group as a whole during the camp season.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Under the supervision of Director, Counselors are responsible in helping conduct, and supervise a variety of recreational activities for preschool campers from the ages of 18 months to 5 years of age in a day camp setting needs. Counselors are also responsible in the care and supervision of the campers assigned to their group. This might also include, diaper changing and hands on assistance with camper’s basic needs.
Responsibilities:
- Participate in staff training prior to the beginning of the camp program.
- Assist the senior counselor in the supervision of a camp group (groups vary in size).
- Assist in supervising health, safety and activities of campers.
- Follow weekly schedule of events and special activities.
- Assist in all areas.
- Take initiative to analyze and solve problems.
- Help senior counselor in Supervising and participating with campers in all daily activities.
- Utilize appropriate behavior management techniques.
- Participate in parent related programs such as “Meet the Counselor”.
- Attend and contribute to weekly staff meetings and trainings.
- Interact with parents in a professional and polite manner.
- Any other responsibilities as assigned by Camp Director.
