Qualifications/Attributes:
- Entering 10th or 11th grade by August.
- Camp and/or leadership experience.
- Good communication skills and ability to work well with children.
- Good character and integrity.
- Interest in art preferred.
- The desire to work with children in a day-camp setting.
- Commitment to building a safe, child-focused community.
- Enthusiasm, sense of humor, and patience.
- Ability to take guidance and supervision.
- Activity skills and the ability to transmit/teach skills to campers.

POSITION PURPOSE:
The Visual Arts Camp Junior Counselor is responsible for providing for the social, emotional and educational needs of each camper and the group as a whole during the camp season.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Under the supervision of the Visual Arts Camp Counselors and Unit Director, Junior Counselors are responsible for assisting in the planning, conducting, and supervising a variety of art activities for campers in 2nd through 8th grade in a day camp setting. In addition, Junior Counselors will assist in the camp art show, and be responsible for the care and supervision of the campers assigned to their group.
Requirements
- Participate in staff training prior to the beginning of the camp program.
- Supervision of a camp group and attend to their needs.
- Supervise health, safety and activities of campers.
- Follow weekly schedule of events and special activities.
- Teach/assist in all areas.
- Take initiative to analyze and solve problems.
- Assist in organizing, collecting and transporting necessary supplies.
- Assist in the clean-up of all activities and lunch area.
- Assist in Art Shows.
- Assist in supervising and participating in crafts, games and other camp activities.
- Participate in parent related programs such as “Meet the Counselor”.
- Attend and contribute to weekly staff meetings and trainings.
- Report any behavior problems to a VA Camp Counselor or Unit Director.
- Any other responsibilities as assigned by Unit Director
