The Sandra and Leon Levine Jewish Community Center is a non-profit, social service agency founded upon Jewish ethics and values. The Center provides and initiates diversified social, educational, recreational and cultural programs within a Jewish setting. The JCC is a partner in serving the community, is affiliated with the JCC Association of North America and a beneficiary agency of the Jewish Federation of Greater Charlotte and United Way.
Qualifications / Attributes:
Under the direction of the Director of Swim School and Aquatic Programming, this position administers Water Fitness classes. Water Fitness instructors are responsible for leading safe, effective, and enjoyable fitness classes. Water Fitness instructors provide class participants with proper form and technique demonstration, exercise modifications, and exercise progressions.
Position Purpose:
Water Fitness instructors are responsible for leading safe, effective, and enjoyable fitness classes. Water Fitness instructors provide class participants with proper form and technique demonstration, exercise modifications, and exercise progressions.
Essential Functions:
- Conduct and lead a fun and effective Aqua Group Exercise class from the pool deck. These classes should include proper warm-up, stretching, cardio, resistance training, and cool-down.
- Arrive to class early to set up for class and be prepared to deliver a successful class.
- Responsible for making sure all equipment is put away properly and in an orderly fashion.
- Be available before or after class if participants have questions.
- Make necessary adjustments to exercises to ensure a safe and effective class.
- Become familiar with participants.
- Perform the job safely and in compliance with LJCC safety rules and procedures.
- Communicate and enforce LJCC rules and policies.
- Provide excellent customer service and maintain a positive public image by immediately addressing questions and concerns from staff, patrons, and participants. Contact and ask for assistance from LJCC full-time staff when needed.
- Communicate any program/patron concerns, questions, or changes to the Director of Swim School and Aquatics Programming as soon as possible. If there is an immediate concern notify the Aquatics Facility Manager.
- Report maintenance needs/broken equipment, and water chemistry issues immediately to the LJCC’s Aquatics Facility Manager.
- Complete accident and incident reports and report any incidents to the Swim School and Aquatic Programming Director.
- Work as a team player with the aquatic team to share space and equipment.
Additional Functions:
- Attend staff meetings and trainings as specified.
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Swim School and Aquatic Programming.
- Must maintain current industry certifications.
Requirements
- Previous education or experience in teaching Aquatic Group Exercise classes is preferred but not necessary.
- Current National Group Fitness Certification required, Aqua Fitness Instructor Certification preferred.
- Knowledgeable in the health and fitness field.
- Must have the ability to solve problems as they arise and be able to perform tasks without supervision.
- Must be highly motivated and able to assume a positive and active role, even while working under potentially stressful conditions (hot or cold weather, upset or injured participants, etc.)
- Must have the ability to enforce Levine Jewish Community Center rules and make sound decisions to secure the safety and well-being of all members and community members, facilities, and equipment.
