The Lewis and Clark County Sheriff's Office is hiring for Probationary Deputies. A Probationary Deputy works under the general supervision of a Sergeant and performs law enforcement and crime prevention duties and responsibilities.
One (1) of the positions will be assigned to Augusta, MT. The County will pay a substation allowance of $900 per month to the assigned deputy in Augusta.
Candidates selected by the selection committee to proceed in the process will be contacted and invited to test. Tests will be scheduled for the middle of March.
Who We Are
The Lewis & Clark County Sheriff's Office is the chief Law Enforcement agency in Lewis & Clark County, Montana. It is comprised of over 120 employees including sworn officers, detention officers and professional support staff. The Sheriff's Office provides general law enforcement, detention functions, rural fire support and search and rescue operations for the citizens of Lewis & Clark County in a service area of over two million acres. Additionally, this agency provides specialized regional services to the entire county and contract law enforcement to specific areas.
The Sheriff, who is elected by the residents of Lewis & Clark County, is the chief executive officer of the agency. He and his command staff manage the day-to-day investigations, evidence management, civil process and a number of support operations necessary to provide full law enforcement coverage and services for Lewis & Clark County.
Currently, the Sheriff's Office provides regional/resident law enforcement services in Lincoln and Augusta as well as contract law enforcement services at Canyon Ferry Lake during the summer. These services include general patrol services and the D.A.R.E. program, as well as any necessary investigative services.

Lewis and Clark County Sheriff’s Office prides it’s self on a culture of professional development and training opportunities. Deputies who join the Office have a variety of opportunities to participate on different teams. After completing the one (1) year probationary period, a Deputy can submit a letter of interest to be part of a variety of teams. A few examples of those teams consist of:
- SWAT Team;
- WET (Water Emergency Team);
- Civil Disobedience Team;
- Taser Instructor;
- Use of Force Instructor;
- Firearms Instructor.
Another exciting opportunity is to be part of the Criminal Investigation Division. The Lewis and Clark Sheriff's Office Investigators handle a wide range of duties. They are responsible for all major investigations, as well as conducting routine case work involving burglaries, thefts and criminal mischief. One Detective is assigned as the Violence Against Women Advocate and one is assigned to the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. The Detectives work closely with the coroner in cases of suicides or unattended deaths.
