Position Title: Water Quality Specialist
Organization: Lewis & Clark County, Public Health, Water Quality Protection District
Pay Rate: $27.84 per hour to $29.47 per hour
Position Type/Status: Regular, Full-time, Non-exempt, MFPE

Lewis & Clark County is hiring a Water Quality Specialist. Under direction of the Water Quality Protection District Program Supervisor, this position performs water quality and water supply sampling and community outreach.
Program Mission
Our mission is to preserve, protect, and improve water quality and quantity within the boundaries of the district. We collect and analyze stream and groundwater data by conducting investigations on local water issues to assist with making informed water decisions.

Duties
- Conducts groundwater and surface water monitoring and sampling;
- Develops and performs outreach and education;
- Assists in presenting scientific information to technical and non-technical audiences;
- Assist in providing technical assistance for grant proposals;
- Provides technical assistance to county departments as requested;
- Maintains sampling and data collection equipment;
- References environmental regulations pertaining to water quality and water supply;
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Examples of Knowledge
- Knowledge of state and federal water quality and environmental statutes and county regulations;
- Water quality sampling techniques;
- Water quantity measurements, including groundwater levels and surface water discharge.

Qualifications
The knowledge, skills, and abilities are typically acquired through a combination of education and experience equivalent to a four (4) year degree in geology, hydrology, hydrogeology, or environmental sciences and one (1) year of experience in the field of hydrology, hydrogeology or environmental sciences preferred.
Physical Demands
Duties are generally performed in environments where hazards and discomforts are controlled and modifiable. This position requires the ability to stand, bend at the waist, kneel, reach over the head. Must be able to move or lift documents and materials weighing up to 30 pounds. Position requires knowledge and use of typical office equipment including telephone, copies, fax machines and personal computer. Position requires frequent contact with fellow employees and citizens and regularly travels to sites away from the health department offices. Seasonal events may require occasional evening or weekend duties.
