The Communications Intern will provide temporary assistance to the Head of Communications on both internal and external communications. Under direct supervision; serve as a resource on a variety of communications matters including social media engagement, customer relations, community and stakeholder outreach, employee engagement, and public affairs. This position may support multiple departments throughout the district.

This is a summer internship position; 24-30 hours per week.  Must be enrolled in or graduating from an accredited college program leading to an associate or bachelor’s degree; similar coursework is preferred.Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties, responsibilities, and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice.
  • Supports the District’s overall internal and external communications and outreach efforts. 
  • Media content development, advertising, public relations, events management, social media, web site, and internet/email marketing. 
  • Provide content, monitor, and contribute to the District’s website and social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc.). This includes assisting in website and social media management during outages and emergencies. 
  • Seeks ways to build and improve upon social media outreach based on industry trends and research analytics. Conducts research, implements plans, and measures results and effectiveness. 
  • Provides communications support to all departments including writing, editing, information-gathering and visual communications support for a wide range of organizational activities, including internal and external communications activities. 
  • Represent and support the District’s values through programs within the community that require attendance at community events, possibly outside of normal business hours. 
  • Assists in development and implementation of community engagement and education efforts/activities. 
  • Assist in organization of District sponsored events and outreach opportunities in the community. 
  • Establish and maintain relationships with external and internal audiences. 
  • Captures photographs and video footage of our facilities and recreational locations. 
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Education and/or Experience:
Must be enrolled in or graduating from an accredited college program leading to an associate or bachelor’s degree; similar coursework is preferred.
Other:
  • Ability to type at least 45 words per minute.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Must be 18 years old and be legal to work in the United States.
  • Cannot exceed more than four (4) summer seasons.
  • Must maintain a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher.
  • Preference shall be given to applicants currently living in Lewis County.

Certificates, Licenses, or Registrations:
Must have a valid Driver’s license.

Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be proficient in MS Outlook, Excel, and Word. 

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently required to walk, climb stairs, bend, reach, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and sit for extended periods of time.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision related to computer work.  Occasionally required to lift and carry up to 25 pounds. Required to speak clearly and hear well when communicating over the telephone and in person.

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Work is generally performed in an indoor environment.    The noise level in the work environment is moderate.Department:  Administration
