What are the responsibilities and job description for the Office Support Intern position at Lewis County Public Utility District?
The Office Support Intern will provide temporary assistance with a variety of projects and tasks. This position may support multiple departments throughout the district; to include but not limited to Human Resources, Safety, Records, Engineering and Energy Services.
This is a student/internship position; applicants must be enrolled or graduating from an accredited college program leading to an associates or bachelors degree; similar coursework is preferred. Must be 18 years old at the time of hire.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties, responsibilities, and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice.
- Support the District’s goal of making our customers our #1 advocates.
- Assist the assigned department in a variety of tasks and special projects associated with assigned department’s work.
- Perform clerical duties including typing, filing, and completion of simple forms.
- Operate office machines including copiers, scanners, phone and voicemail systems, personal computers, and other standard office equipment.
- Answer phone calls, direct calls to appropriate individuals, and prepare messages.
- Copy, sort, and file records related to office activities, business transactions, and other matters.
- Maintain filing systems either manually or electronically. Sort all papers alphabetically and according to content, dates, significance, etc.
- Help facilitate the Scan and Toss program/digital conversion of paper records.
- Acquire knowledge of the District’s records policy and local government public records retention for proper destruction, if applicable.
- Maintain confidentiality to safeguard data and information.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:
Must be enrolled or graduating from an accredited college program leading to an associate or bachelor’s degree; similar coursework is preferred.

- Ability to type at least 45 words per minute.

- Must be 18 years old and be legal to work in the United States.
- Cannot exceed more than four (4) summer seasons.

- Preference shall be given to applicants currently living in Lewis County.
Certificates, Licenses, or Registrations:
Must have a valid Driver’s license.
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be proficient in MS Outlook, Excel, and Word.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently required to walk, climb stairs, bend, reach, uses hands to finger, handle, or feel, and sit for extended periods of time. Occasionally required to lift and carry up to 40 pounds. Required to speak and hear clearly when communicating over the telephone and in person.
Work Environment:
Primarily office environment. Must dress and present yourself in a way that promotes a positive image of the District and meets the District’s dress code policy. Prolonged computer related exposure. Able to sit/stand at a workstation and operate a keyboard for long periods of time. Must be able to work for extended periods of time in a seated or standing position.
