FLSA CLASSIFICATION: NON-EXEMPT
Substitute duties within the Lewis County School System include, but are not limited to, the following:
Essential Functions
- Report to office by 7:30 to sign in, obtain ID badge and pick up the substitute teacher report to be completed during course of the day.
- Follow the plans and notes left by the teacher. If none are left, ask for guidance from the colleague next door. Each teacher has a general idea of what the others do.
- Take attendance as soon as the bell rings. Send attendance cards of absent students to the office. If a student is back from being absent, send them to the office to be re-admitted, whether they have a note or not.
- Locate lesson plan book on their desk. (This should contain seating charts, class roster, schedule of day’s activities, breaks, library, P.E., computer lab, walk home time, carry children to bus line at appointed time, etc.)
- Teachers should have a folder with information such as who goes to special classes and what time.
- Supervision of students is of utmost importance. Accompany them for a break, to the library, to the mini-gym, to lunch, etc. Ask a colleague to watch students when you have to take a break.
- Follow teacher’s lesson plan.
- Sign out at office at end of day and return tag. Return completed substitute teacher report to office personnel.
Interpersonal Skill
- Interact well with students, faculty members, and support staff personnel.
- Loyalty to school system.
Physical Requirements
- Normal standing, sitting and walking. Some lifting, approximately 30 pounds.
- Accompany and supervise students on playground.
- Be mobile enough to move around in classroom, climb stairs and walk 300 yards without assistance.
Work Schedule
- 7 Hours per day.
- Work according to school calendar.
Time Keeping Records
- Time sheets will be at each school office and sent to Central Office on the 10th of the month.
New Substitute Teacher Information
Substitute Pay: $80.00 per day/$40.00 half day
- Substitutes are regularly called between 6:15 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. to work.
- Applicants are required to attend a Substitute Teacher In-Service prior to substitute teaching.
- You must be at least 18 years old to substitute. Please make sure you have all of the required information.
- Copies of your Driver’s License or Government I.D. and Social Security Card are required with your application for payroll purposes.
- A blank check is required if you would like Direct Deposit. This bank account can be a checking or savings account.
- Proof of Education is required (High School Diploma, GED, College Degree and/or Transcripts). Certified Teachers must submit a copy of their teaching license.
- Substitutes are paid monthly on the 20th of the month. If the 20th should fall on a weekend, you will be paid the Friday before. Timesheets are submitted to payroll on the 10th of the month.
- Any changes in your information (i.e. name, address, phone, direct deposit, etc.) must be submitted in writing to the Central Office with appropriate documentation, if needed. You must submit this information as soon as possible in order to update your information and/or to avoid any delays in payroll.
- NOTICE: This position requires a criminal background check. Therefore, you may be required to provide information about your criminal history in order to be considered for this position.
Salary : $40 - $80
