Job Title: Garden Center Employee
Reports to: Store Manager, Assistant Manager, Floor Manager
Status: Non-Exempt
Summary
The garden center employee supports the smooth operation of the Garden Center by providing positive and friendly customer service to our guests. This person will answer questions pertaining to outdoor living and live goods and consult with lead experts as needed. The garden center employee will care for and display merchandise and live goods in designated departments. Unless solely hired for watering/plant maintenance, accurate operation of a cash register is required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Greet all customers with a smile and friendly attitude
- Record prices, subtotal taxable items, and total purchases on a cash register
- Collect acceptable forms of payment from customers and make change for cash transactions
- Stock shelves, counters, and tables with merchandise and live goods per corporate guidelines
- Assist in setting up displays to promote sales and maintain knowledge of weekly ad
- Stamp, mark, or tag prices on merchandise
- Review price sheets to note price changes and sale items
- Must be willing to work in all weather conditions (rain, wind, extreme heat/sun, etc.)
- Maintain a neat and clean work space
- Promote Lewis initiatives and represent Lewis in a positive manner to our customers and communities
- Perform additional duties as assigned by management

Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required (or in progress)
- Ability to handle transactions accurately and responsibly
- Basic math and computer skills
- Horticulture or landscaping knowledge is a plus
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to stand and remain stationary for long periods of time
- Must be able to constantly operate a cash register
- Ability to lift/move items up to 10 lbs constantly, up to 20 lbs frequently, and up to 50 lbs occasionally with or without accommodation
- Must be able to work in and around plants, flowers, trees, and other live goods
- Must be able to work in an outdoor environment during the months of March through August
