The Lewis Recruiting team is excited to announce that applications are now open for the Lewis Maintenance Apprentice Program.
Please note: This program is available to Lewis employees only.
JOIN THE TEAM: This exciting program is intended for groundskeepers who have expressed a desire to advance to a Maintenance Technician position within the company. By meeting class requirements and job responsibilities, the program offers a unique career path for Lewis team-members seeking to advance their skills and career.
To be considered: Employees must first receive approval from their Maintenance Supervisor and Community Director. Groundskeepers who are selected to participate in the program will be transferred to a training property, where they will be under the guidance of a seasoned Maintenance Supervisor and mentored by qualified Maintenance Technicians. The hourly rate for a Maintenance Apprentice is $21.50/hour.
Apprentices will work alongside other maintenance personnel, as well as independently, learning the necessary skills and processes that are required for promotion to a Maintenance Technician position.
PREREQUISITES TO APPLY:
- Complete a minimum of 10 Maintenance Training Classes
- This position requires reliable transportation and a valid driver's license is preferred
Once accepted to the 12‐week training program, a Maintenance Apprentice must demonstrate the following requirements of the position to successfully
complete the program:
- Use and understanding of OneSite
- Safety Data Sheets (SDS) location and comprehension
- Safe work practices and knowledge of emergency procedures
- Proper use of tools and equipment
- Independent completion of vacant unit turns
- Independent completion of service requests
- Comprehension of on‐call responsibilities
- Completion of the Daily Training Task Log(s)
- Ownership for the daily appearance and upkeep of the property
- Professionalism with residents and vendors
- Adherence to all company policies and procedures
At the completion of the 12‐week training program, the Maintenance Apprentice will be evaluated by the Director of Maintenance to determine if he/she may advance to a Maintenance Technician position. If the apprentice does not meet these requirements, he/she will remain a groundskeeper at his/her previous hourly rate and will be placed where there is an open position. There is no guaranteed placement back at the original community.
WHAT YOU WILL LEARN: During the program, your training experiences will include:
- Basic Plumbing, including angle stops, shut-off valves, disposals, supply lines, water heaters & more
- Appliances, including washer/dryer, ranges, microwaves & refrigerators
- Drywall & Painting best practices
- Basic Electrical, including GFCI, switches, ballasts & more
- Air conditioning & heating systems
- Doors & Windows, entry locks, hardware & cutting keys
- Counter-tops & Cabinets
- Garage Doors & Openers
- Vendor relations, maintenance inspections, office procedures, On-call responsibilities and much more
