Job Description Summary | The Swimming Coach reports to the Athletic Director and is responsible for conducting a successful NCAA Division II Swim Program within the rules, regulations and guidelines established by the NCAA, the University, and the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Responsibilities | Responsible to model the University Mission through dedicated job performance, service excellence to constituencies, respectful collaboration and active support of the University's Mission and Catholic and Lasallian higher education. -Conduct on and off campus student athlete recruitment/scouting efforts; initiate contact with prospective student athletes at the high school and junior college levels; arrange meetings, campus visits, etc. for potential recruits. -Plan the activities and drills for each practice session. -Instruct athletes in ways to strengthen their swimming/teamwork skills. -Develop structured conditioning programs for the athletes to increase agility, mental prowess, strength and endurance; consult with athletic trainers and team doctors. -Schedule all swimming matches and tournaments. -Control and oversee the budget for the swim program; authorize budgetary expenditures for equipment and supplies. -Work cooperatively with academic advisors and tutors to keep players in good academic standing. -Plan all travel, eating and hotel arrangements for swim tournaments and athletic events away from the university. -Work cooperatively with the Sports Information Director to promote Lewis' Swim Program both on and off campus. -Promote players for awards such as All Conference, All American, etc. -Grant interviews to newspaper reporters, TV and Radio announcers. -Attend and/or participate in professional swim clinics and other athletic development seminars. -Attend coaching conferences to stay informed about NCAA schedules, rules, eligibility requirements, policies, etc. -Assisting in special projects and/or activities. -Providing counseling/support services to student athletes. -Serving on university committees and/or task forces as assigned. -Providing assistance to the Athletic Director in program/departmental planning activities. Minimum Qualifications | A bachelor's degree and a minimum of three years successful swim coaching experience at the high school, Jr. College or collegiate level, Must demonstrate knowledge of NCAA Division II Swim Rules and Regulations, Must possess adequate vision in order to critically analyze athlete weaknesses and make appropriate recommendations for improvement, Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, and must be able to work with flexible schedules involving evening, weekend and holiday matches and/or tournaments. |
