JOB TITLE: JROTC Senior Instructor

GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB

Under limited supervision by the school principal or his/her designee, provides thorough instruction for all students according to their individual need and design curriculum in accordance with South Carolina Department of Education Standards. Complies with all regulatory guidelines outlined in Cadet Command Regulation 145-2, JROTC Program Organization, Administration, Operation, Training and Support and Cadet Command Regulation 145-8-3, Organizational Inspection Program. Provides comprehensive educational instruction to students enrolled in the JROTC Program. Assess and documents student leadership skills and JROTC academic skills. Develops and implements instructional lesson plans utilizing the JROTC four phase lesson plan and curriculum materials provided by the United States Army Cadet Command and implements appropriate instructional techniques bases on individual student needs, while maintaining documentation of student progress. Coordinates with all JROTC department personnel to plan, organize and conduct JROTC extracurricular and co-curricular activities to meet requirements established in the Unit Report and Cadet Command Regulation. Collaborates with general education staff, special education staff, guidance counselors and school administrators, as needed, to maximize program effectiveness. Regularly communicates with parents and relevant stakeholders regarding students' achievement and behavior. Maintains management of classroom at all times. Reports to the Principal and/or Assistant Principal. 
 

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Ensures that various instructional strategies are executed to encourage academic growth in diverse learners.

Communicates effectively with parents and leadership regarding student achievement.

 

Serves as an exemplary role model at all times.

 

Carries out all additional duties (lunch, bus, hall, morning etc…) as directed by school administration.

 

Attends required professional development that is beneficial to the CCSD and its students.

 

Plans and presents a program of study and training in armed forces preparedness that meets the student’s needs, interests and abilities. 

 

Instructs students enrolled in program for the purpose of meeting ROTC requirements.

 

Maintains master training schedule, classroom equipment, clothing/uniforms, student files, records, maintenance budget, clothing inventory/ordering, etc. for the purpose of meeting the US Army and school district regulations.

 

Evaluates student progress and counsels cadets on their performance within the JROTC program.

 

Monitors students (e.g. drill practice, field exercises, classroom activities, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.

 

Complies with US Army and school district safety guidelines when instructing, supervising, monitoring, and accompanying cadets.

 

Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.

 

Develops course syllabi, lesson plans, assignments, experiential exercises, and demonstrations, training aides, reference materials and related resources to accomplish course and lesson objectives.

 

Guides the learning process toward achievement of curriculum goals; establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, etc., and communicates these objectives to students.

 

Employs a variety of instructional techniques and media consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of students involved.

 

Assists individual students in need of special attention.

 

Prepares, administers and corrects tests and assignments; performs test score analysis; records student grades.

 

Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required; encourages students through proactive counseling to complete high school and pursue higher educational goals.

 

Makes presentations to school and community organizations to promote the JROTC program.

 

Maintains positive relationships with parents; schedules and conducts parent-teacher conferences as necessary.

 

Maintains accurate, complete and up-to-date classroom records as required by law, District policy and administrative regulation.

 

Assists the school administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct; develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.

 

Serves as liaison for ROTC headquarters, recruiters, college admissions personnel, etc.

 

Maintains inventory of classroom supplies, equipment and student uniforms; prepares supply requisitions as needed.

 

Assists in preparing the JROTC program's annual budget.

 

Plans, coordinates, supervises and/or participates in special programs, projects or events as required, including but not limited to the activities of the drill team, color guard, saber team, honor guard personnel and other co-curricular activities; attends activities and events before and after regular school hours and on weekends as required.

 

Attends staff meetings and serves on various staff committees as required.

 

Receives and responds to inquiries, requests for assistance and complaints in areas of responsibility.

 

Operates a variety of equipment such as computers, printers, copier, audio-visual materials, calculator, telephone, etc.; uses clerical, copier, computer, instructional supplies.

 

Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the immediate supervisor, co­workers, teachers, other school administrators and staff, District administrators and staff, vendors / service providers, students, parents, volunteers, military personnel and the general public.

 

 Attends training, seminars and workshops, etc., to maintain and enhance job knowledge and skills.

 

ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Maintains a clean and orderly classroom.

 

Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities as assigned.

 

Performs routine office tasks as required, including but not limited to preparing routine records and reports, copying and filing documents, answering the telephone, sending and receiving faxes, entering and retrieving computer data, etc.

 

Performs related duties as required.

 
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree and specialized training preferred, supplemented by extensive years of experience/service in the U.S. Army, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Knowledge of educational program development; knowledge of South Carolina Department of Education standards; ability to conceptualize and implement innovate educational programs; ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; and ability to work in teams and coordinate programs involving a multi-disciplinary approach, preferred. 

 

SALARY

Determined by the US Army Cadet Command.
