What are the responsibilities and job description for the Behavioral Health Peer Support Specialist position at Lex Behavioral Health?
Lex Behavioral Health is seeking full-time day and/or night Peer Support Specialists who will provide direct peer-to-peer support services to individuals who have substance abuse or co-occurring disorders. The Peer Support Specialist will draw from his/her journey of recovery to inspire hope and provide support to others facing similar situations. This rewarding position offers the opportunity to make a positive impact in the lives of others. We have two shifts available:
7:00 am to 3:30 pm and 10:00 am to 6:00 pm
Location: Lexington, Kentucky
Responsibilities – Adult Peer Support Specialist
- Complete all required documentation for individual and group work within the EMR (Electronic Health Record) system.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with company, state, federal and HIPAA rules and regulations.
- Assists and supports patients in daily decision-making, resolution of minor problems, and crisis intervention as necessary
- Assist clients individually and in groups as part of a treatment team.
- Meets with patients to provide advice and support following treatment plans
- Assists patients in identifying their personal goals and objectives for recovery and sobriety
- Observes behaviors and evidence of general well-being and discusses observations with the patient
- Assists with transportation
- Assist peers in articulating recovery goals, learning new skills, monitoring their progress, supporting them in their treatment, and supporting them in advocating for themselves for services.
- Co-lead assigned groups with therapists to provide support to participants.
- Assist with client arrival and departure
- Create recovery plans with your clients
- Uses their personal experiences to develop meaningful and trusting relationships with clients, acting as a mentor.
- Knowledge and skill to teach and engage in basic problem-solving strategies to support individual clients in self-directed recovery.
- Attend required meetings, including individual and group supervision
Qualifications and Education – Adult Peer Support Specialist
- A high school diploma (GED) is required.
- Adult Peer Support Specialists must successfully complete the core competency training administered by the State of Kentucky.
- Complete, maintain, and submit a minimum of six (6) hours of related training or education in each subsequent year.
· Must have or have had a primary diagnosis of substance use disorder (SUD), UD, SMI or COD and have received behavioral health services.
· Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable operating transportation.
· Excellent communication skills
· Basic computer skills
