Job Title: Material Handler Department: Warehouse-Lex East
The Material Handler is responsible for ensuring that each production line gets the material as per the Job Order Bill of Material and is also responsible for informing their supervisor of incomplete kits or missing materials. Material Handler will support all production lines when there are BoM errors, parts damaged in production, or missing from production kits. The Material Handler also works with the Warehouse Coordinator and Warehouse Manager to ensure inventory quantities are accurate and perform cycle counts.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Work with site supervisors to ensure that the correct product is in place for production schedules.
- Gather materials for upcoming & scheduled jobs (kitting)
- Interact with the area supervisors, and line assemblers on any issues that may arise.
- Assist in packaging materials and shipping if needed.
- Put away stock, finished goods, and materials when needed.
- Perform tasks while complying with company safety policies.
- Follow OSHA standards
- Participate in routine practices and team projects relating to LEAN, 5S, Scrap, Safety, Quality, etc.
- Follow all ISO 9001 and military lot traceability where required
- Pick and package products according to customer requirements
- Work with s Place identifying information on outbound shipments which include address label, packing slip, commercial invoice, or other documents.
- Completes documentation timely and accurately.
- Ensures that all available shipments are shipped to Lex customers daily
- Communicate with managers, peers, and subordinates on a routine basis regarding the flow of materials throughout Lex.
- Trace lost shipments and/or customer claims of lost shipments.
- Initiate proof of delivery documents.
- Maintain department database, prepare routine reports, and file shipment records.
- Familiarity with shipping documents, including bill of lading and packing slips.
- Basic computer skills and strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work daily and/or weekend overtime.
- Good problem solving and troubleshooting ability.
- Must have good visual acuity.
- Ability to focus on the task at hand and work under the stress of deadlines.
- Ability to follow procedures and written instructions.
- Ability to use sound judgment in performing tasks correctly.
- Operate pallet jack and/or forklift in loading shipments.
- Promote and follow established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards.
- Ensure proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
- Maintain a safe and clean work environment (may require sweeping, mopping, trash removal, etc.)
- Promptly report to supervisor all observations that are relevant to ensure a safe and efficient operation in the department.
- Willing to work overtime when necessary.
- Work closely with operations and supply chain departments to support on-time shipping metrics and inventory accuracy (cycle counts, transactions). Metrics to be provided by supervisor.
- Performs other duties as directed by supervisor.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Requirements:
- 1 years of material handling, shipping, and inventory management experience
- High school diploma or GED or any other equivalent diploma needs to have at least 2 years of more experience working with a manufacturing company (electrical parts experience is preferable)
- Thorough understanding and experience in Bills of Materials, routings, cycle count, the function of inventory control, shipping/receiving, and order processing
- Ability to maintain an attendance record in good standing (per Lex policies) in order to fulfill Material Handler duties.
- Current forklift certification preferred.
- Practical problem solving with a variety of concrete variables in situations where limited standardization exists
- Effective organizational skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Demonstrated, effective interpersonal communication skills
- Flexibility to adapt to changes in the work environment and work assignments
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted throughout the day.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
- Swing Reach Truck certification required.
- Forklift Operators certificate preferred.
