Lexington Childrens Theatre (LCT) is seeking a Managing Director to manage finance, operations, HR strategies, and business planning for the theatre. This is a unique opportunity to step into an executive role with Kentuckys designated childrens theatre and play an active role in our day-to-day success.
About LCT
Were a nationally recognized nonprofit arts organization with a dedicated staff of 25 to 35 employees and an annual budget of $1.5 million. We have been creating imaginative and compelling theatre experiences for young people and families for over 80 years.

What LCT Does : Our Plays :
- Produces nine plays annually, highlighting diversity in our performances, including the tours to schools and community venues.
- We involve our local youth and community members in performances, ensuring a personal and community-focused aspect of the productions.
Education and Outreach :
Our education department provides arts education starting for youth ages 4-18.We want our students to receive a positive experience that focuses on the value of arts education in shaping young minds.Community Partnerships :

We're looking for a leader who combines strategic thinking with a roll-up-your-sleeves mentality- someone who thrives on both shaping the big picture and handling the details to ensure success. The ideal candidate is passionate about the performing arts and their impact on the community, has exceptional writing and communication skills, works well independently, and demonstrates strong organizational abilities.
Financial Strategy & Management : Youll complete all financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting, while also handling daily accounting, payroll, and cash flow.Marketing, Sales, & Development : Youll lead efforts to elevate LCTs visibility, increase ticket sales, secure donations and grants, and strengthen our brand and community impact.Business Operations : Youll lead LCTs overall business planning and ensure the effective use of resources in all business-related operations.Human Resources : Youll manage our people-related policies and processes ensuring a positive and inclusive workplace culture.Leadership & Governance : Youll act as a key member of our executive management team, supporting board governance and compliance with laws and regulations.Essential Roles and Responsibilities
Finance & Accounting
Oversee all financial operations, including accounting, cash receipts, payroll, and budget management.Develop and administer the annual budget in collaboration with staff and the board, ensuring accurate reporting and forecasting.Manage administrative expenses, sales income, fundraising revenue, and other earned revenue.Ensure timely approval and payment of bills while maintaining accurate financial records.Oversee the annual audit, bank account management, and compliance with federal tax filing requirements.Provide monthly financial reporting and capital expenditure oversight in cooperation with the Board of Directors.Marketing, Sales, & Development
Collaborate with marketing, development, and education teams to achieve earned and unearned revenue goals, including ticket sales, registrations, fundraising, and events.Oversee the marketing and public relations efforts through website updates, email campaigns, social media, word-of-mouth initiatives, paid advertising, and media opportunities.Advocate for the theatre by enhancing its image, visibility, and influence in the community.Develop and nurture partnerships with local businesses, arts organizations, schools, media, and other stakeholders to expand LCTs reach and impact.Human Resources
Manage workforce planning, onboarding, offboarding, and employee benefits, including healthcare benefits and the organizations retirement plan.Serve as the primary point of contact for HR policies, maintaining a compliant, positive, and inclusive workplace culture.Leadership & Advocacy
Partner with the Producing Artistic Director to execute the theatres mission and vision.Represent LCT within the community, building relationships with local businesses, arts groups, government agencies, schools, the media and universities.Hire and manage the arts administration and operations team, fostering a collaborative and professional working environment.Represent and advocate for the Theatre to continually enhance its image, visibility, and influence across the community. This includes assisting in soliciting corporate donations, sponsorships, and individual donations.Participate in board committees and maintain effective communication with board members, staff, and stakeholders.Maintain a safe and orderly environment for staff, patrons, and students.Advocate for the theatre by fostering collaboration with local arts organizations and identifying opportunities for rentals and partnerships.Qualifications
A Bachelors degree in Arts Administration, Nonprofit Management, Theatre Arts, or a related field is required; a Masters degree is preferred.Experience with QuickBooks Accounting software is required.Experience in theatre, particularly knowledge of front-of-house and box office operations, is highly beneficial.At least 2 years of experience in grant writing AND marketing and public relations, including writing press releases, managing social media, and graphic design, is strongly preferred.At least 2 years of supervisory experience is strongly preferred.Lexington Childrens Theatre is committed to fostering an inclusive and diverse workplace.
