TITLE: ACCOUNTING CLERK
FLSA STATUS: 12-MONTH EXEMPT (Professional Staff Position)
QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Three years financial accounting experience
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Broad knowledge of computerized accounting systems, spreadsheet, database management, and word processing applications
- Thorough knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and reporting procedures
- Thorough knowledge of the required reports for School Board, federal, state and local government
- Broad knowledge of office, business, and school district procedures
- Effective written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Ability to organize and prioritize high volume of work, often under the pressure of multiple demands, deadlines and constant interruptions while maintaining close attention to detail and accuracy
- Demonstrate a high level of reliability, attention to detail, and good judgment in financial matters
- Possess excellent organizational skills including the ability to manage diverse and complex assignments
- Demonstrate the ability to interact with the School Board, school officials, other employees, and the general public in a courteous and professional manner

REPORTS TO: Division Superintendent
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: This position will remain open until filled.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

- Set up and maintain financial records for public funds using computer accounting systems in accordance with District regulations, policies, and procedures
- Manage the School Division’s payroll procedures including: collect timesheets, process payroll, ensure payroll balances prior to authorization to the City of Lexington for check printing
- Manage the School Division’s accounts payable and accounts receivable
- Enter all invoices, code invoices to the appropriate department, balance payables
- Process 1099s and file
- Coordinate non-resident tuition services for the school division including: enter student contact information, deposit all tuition payments, post payments to non-resident student records, manage communication to non-resident families
- Serve as the School Board Clerk: Assist with preparing information for all Board meetings, prepare reports, attend all Board meetings, take minutes, update database for Board members, manage School Board registration and payment for conferences and trainings
- Coordinate communications with and between the Virginia School Board Association (VSBA) and the School District
- Provide support during internal and external audits by preparing necessary documentation and reports.
- Work collaboratively with the school division’s Business Manager, the City’s finance director and treasurer’s office in all related services
- Communicate effectively with all staff and administrators
- Demonstrate good work habits to include punctual and regular attendance
- Perform other related duties and responsibilities as requested
SALARY RANGE: $37,000-$49,000
