X-Ray Technologist looking to also learn MRI
SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Under the general and direct supervision of the Medical Director, Radiologist, Administrator and Chief Technologist, a staff technologist will perform MRI, CT scans, general x-ray examinations, DXA examinations and assist during fluoroscopy and sterile procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be a high school graduate or equivalent and a graduate of an accredited Radiography program.
At a minimum, must be certified by the ARRT (R), in good standing.
Must obtain the required continuing education credits to maintain current certification.
Must have current CPR certification.
Must have good patient care skills and technical skills related to performing x-ray, DXA, CT and MRI procedures.
Must have good communication skills.
Must be able to pay attention to details.
EXPERIENCE:
1. May be a new graduate of an accredited Radiography program.
PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS:
A) Knowledge:
1) Must be knowledgeable in the use and care of equipment, machines and supplies; safety and welfare of the patient and visitors including radiation and MRI safety procedures; prevention of unnecessary expense, waste, loss of time and damage to equipment; order and cleanliness of the clinic.
2) Knowledge of CT procedures. Has an understanding of correcting technical and positioning errors.
3) Knowledge of x-ray procedures and techniques. Has an understanding of correcting positioning and technical errors.
4) Knowledge of DXA procedures. Has an understanding of correcting technical and positioning errors.
5) Knowledge of fluoroscopy and sterile techniques.
6) Knowledge of MRI procedures. Has an understanding of correcting technical and positioning errors.
7) Knowledge MRI safety, radiation safety and contrast media safety.
a) Must have the ability and understanding to determine the safety of implants and objects entering the magnetic field. Also has an understanding of RF and gradient field safety.
b) Must have an understanding of radiation safety for the protection of patients, staff members and self.
c) Must have the ability and understanding to determine the renal function and allergy status of all patients receiving contrast media.
8) Must be familiar with cleaning agents and methods; physical layout of the facility; techniques for dealing with patients and family members; operation of all equipment and supplies necessary for MRI, CT, x-ray, fluoroscopy and DXA procedures.
9) Keeps current on and adheres to all policies and procedures as enumerated in the policy and procedure manual.

Mental abilities:
1) Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions.
2) Must be able to organize workload to determine priority of duties.
3) Must be able to work in an environment with stress factors of telephone calls, noise generated by equipment and talking.
C) Working conditions:
1) Works under normal temperature conditions, with adequate light, ventilation and space.
2) Works mostly independently, but occasionally with others.
3) Must expect moderate noise from equipment and daily activities. Also must expect loud noise from the gradients used during MRI scanning.
D) Hazards:
1) Exposure to various chemical agents typically used in an office setting.
2) Possible exposure to blood borne pathogens and infections.
3) Exposure to ionizing radiation.
4) Exposure to magnetic fields and loud noises while working in and around MRI scanners.
E) Physical demands:
1) Able to tolerate intermittent physical activity, including sitting, walking, standing, stooping, carrying, talking, seeing, bending, handling. The degree to which any of these is done depends on the techniques being used.
2) Must have sufficient freedom of body movement in order to stand up and sit down at workstation; be able to squat, and/or stoop in order to lift a patient.
3) Must have sufficient physical strength and agility to operate all equipment.
4) Must have sufficient ability to push, pull and lift at least 25 lbs.
5) Must have sufficient seeing ability to be able to type on a computer. Must have sufficient hearing to answer telephone calls, communicate with patients and coworkers and respond to overhead pages.
F) Job tasks:
1) Participates in daily operations of the clinical department, including but not limited to quality assurance, image acquisition and performance of procedures including all tasks necessary to complete procedures, assuring adherence to all regulations and laws, and department and company policies and procedures.
2) Work in PBSI Doc and electronic health record for purposes of gathering and entering patient information.
3) Can be depended upon to modify work schedule as required by LDC and according to policy. Participates in marketing and educational programs during and after scheduled work hours.
4) Interacts with fellow employees in a way that promotes a harmonious and cooperative working environment.
5) Maintains the confidentiality of all current and former patients’ information as required by the LDC policy and governing laws.
