Job Summary
The Medical Laboratory Specialist (MLS) will be responsible for performing routine and specialty testing, providing fast and precise information for patient diagnosis and treatment. This includes manual and automated laboratory testing, collection of specimens, and processing laboratory specimens related to assigned departments.
Responsibilities
- Perform manual and automated laboratory testing using instrumentation.
- Collect and process laboratory specimens from various patients, including those requiring venipunctures and capillary punctures.
- Select, perform, evaluate, and monitor test procedures independently using manual and/or instrumental techniques.
- Recognize indicators of malfunction and perform corrective action.
- Document instances appropriately and serve as a technical resource for troubleshooting equipment issues.
- Train employees on instrument operation, troubleshooting, and updates.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science or a related field.
- 3 years of clinical experience and current ASCP BOC Specialty Certification.
- Ability to work independently and make decisions in the absence of a supervisor.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
