Job Summary
Performs various patient care and related services in providing for the personal needs and comfort of patients in the Radiology Department. Performs duties for Special Procedures which include doing shaving preps, recording patient’s pulses, taking vitals before and /or after procedures, changing or applying sterile dressings, transporting patients, and assist departmental nurses with any other duties to help maximize patient care. Acts as a liaison between nursing, physicians, hospital personnel, patients and visitors. Accepts changes in duties when appropriate. Demonstrates flexibility when asked or condition dictates.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent
Minimum Years of Experience: None.
Substitutable Education & Experience: None.
Required Certifications/Licensure: Current CPR Certification
Required Training: Understanding of Medical terminology
Essential Functions
- Demonstrates competence to provide developmentally appropriate care/treatment for the following patient population: Infant (Birth to 1 year); Child (1 year through 12 years); Adolescent (13 years through 17 years); Adult (18 years to 65 years); Geriatric (over 65 years)
- The Radiology Nurse Tech will perform assigned patient care tasks under the direction and supervision of the Radiology Nurse Manager. Performs clerical function in a manner that enhances the timely, efficient and effective delivery of patient care.
- Assists with admission procedures and orients patient to environment.
- Recognizes need for safety measures and takes appropriate action to prevent injury.
- Shaves and preps patients for procedures.
- Directs patient and /or assists patient to undress appropriately for exam.
- Recognizes need for safety measures and takes appropriate action to prevent injury.
- Changes linen and makes up stretchers, organizes patient’s environment and performs other personalized services within prescribed limits.
- Takes and records vital signs and reports any unusual or abnormal findings to the designated RN or Radiologist.
- Assists nurses and Radiologists with administration of treatments and examinations.
- Changes sterile and unsterile dressings as directed.
- Assists nurses or lab personnel when obtaining blood samples and x-ray personnel when patient is having post or pre procedure x-rays.
- Sets up sterile trays for nursing personnel.
- Prepares room for expected procedure admission and stocks area.
- Transports patients for “Special Procedure” from the floor to radiology prep room.
- Interprets and transcribes physician orders as necessary. Enters orders and pertinent information into the Patient Care System.
- Demonstrates knowledge and effective use of Medical Terminology.
