Job Overview:
The Kitchen Chef will be responsible for preparing food to meet the cafeteria’s high standards, working closely with the kitchen team to ensure timely service of top-quality meals, and overseeing the overall operation of the kitchen to ensure everything runs smoothly.
Key Responsibilities:
- Food Preparation: Prepare and cook a variety of dishes following the cafeteria’s recipes and standards, including grilling, sautéing, and baking.
- Station Setup: Set up and organize workstations with all necessary ingredients and supplies for a smooth and efficient workflow.
- Menu Preparation: Develop and prepare a diverse range of entrees and menu items, ensuring quality and consistency.
- Quality Control: Ensure food is cooked to the highest standards, paying attention to portion sizes, presentation, and cooking times.
- Cleanliness & Safety: Keep the kitchen clean and organized. Follow health and safety guidelines for food handling and sanitation.
- Teamwork: Work closely with other kitchen staff to ensure efficient operations.
- Inventory & Stocking: Monitor food inventory, place orders and ensure deliveries are received and checked correctly.
- Money Handling: Manage cash and credit transactions, handle payments from customers, and ensure accurate financial records.
- Event Support: Occasional help with catering events, including plating, carving, serving, and managing stations.
- Problem Solving: Address issues quickly and professionally, including equipment problems or ingredient shortages.
- Administrative Tasks: Assist with administrative duties such as updating recipes and researching vendors and other related tasks to support kitchen operations
Requirements:
- Experience: Prior experience as a Line Cook or in a kitchen environment is preferred
- Skills: Strong cooking skills and knowledge of kitchen equipment and techniques
- Knowledge: Familiarity with food safety and sanitation guidelines. ServSafe certification is a must.
- Physical Demands: Ability to stand for extended periods, handle hot cooking equipment, and lift up to 40 lbs
Ideal candidate will have experience managing the overall kitchen operations, from food preparation to administrative tasks.
This is full time job: Monday through Friday, 7 am – 3:30pm with occasional overtime.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $22.00 - $25.00 per hour
