What are the responsibilities and job description for the Ambulatory Surgery Center Authorization/ Referral Coordinator position at Lexington Surgery Center?
JOB SUMMARY:
Obtain insurance authorizations, pre-certifications and physician referrals for new and existing patients for all surgery services.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
· Verify insurance and or obtain authorizations for upcoming appointments
· Work as a liaison between the insurance carriers, providers, and patient(s).
· Responsible for data entry of referral information and documentation of all referrals.
· Gather and submit clinicals as deemed necessary.
· Meet productivity verification processing of an average of 30-50 referrals daily.
· Meet productivity authorization/verification requests 2 weeks prior to the scheduled appointment.
· Modifies CPT/ICD-10 Codes and extends authorizations as needed
· Understand the CPT/ICD codes being submitted
· Maintain an understanding of payer policies for procedures
· Obtain benefits prior to patient visits
· Contact patient and or referring provider when unable to verify insurance benefits
· Assist in training newly hired employees
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Ability to adapt to a changing work environment as deemed necessary by physicians and managers
· Prior experience as a Referral Coordinator utilizing EMR, preferably eCW
· Ability to communicate effectively in person and by telephone
· Ability to work well under pressure.
· Exceptional attention to detail.
· Able to maintain a courteous and professional attitude at all times.
· Good organizational skills.
· Ability to maintain confidentiality of the surgery center and patients.
· Excellent computer skills to include Microsoft Office applications
