Operations Supervisor - Animal Facility

SPECIFIC POSITION DUTIES (RESPONSIBILITIES, TASKS, ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS)
  • Work with ROPs management to establish and plan husbandry and support activities
  • Provide staff oversight and scheduling for all support activities and take corrective action/coaching as necessary to ensure high standards
  • Create, review, and edit SOPs, WIs and other departmental procedures as needed
  • Train staff on associated procedures as defined in SOPs, WI, and company policies, maintain accurate and timely documentation, and ensure staff compliance
  • Serve as a strong, proactive leader who anticipates and solves problems, and inspires staff. Maintain regular staff 1:1 meetings to promote and manage staff performance and development and escalates matters to ROPs management as appropriate
  • Conduct regular staff meetings and provide minutes that summarize discussions in a timely manner
  • Allocate 50% of time to work within the core and serves as a staff resource
  • Provide coverage for daily operational tasks as needed to include weekends and holidays
  • Assist with preparations for internal quality audits and regulatory inspections
  • Assists with recruiting, hiring, performance management, and assignment of workloads Coordinate with ROPs management to ensure consistency across the department in terms of policy and regulatory compliance enforcement
  • Complete assigned projects and tasks independently with little to no supervision, and timely follow-up as appropriate
  • Provide primary oversight for the veterinary care and health monitoring programs and sample submission processes
  • Actively participate on the Rabbit Oversight Committee as requested
  • Utilize computer and paper based systems to accurately document and/or record information to assure compliance with applicable regulations, and company policies
  • Exhibit a firm understanding of the deviation procedures and change control system. Initiate and manage deviation and/or change control documentation as appropriate
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS)
  • High School Diploma or GED required, BS in animal science or related field is strongly preferred
  • Minimum of 6 years’ experience in a laboratory animal environment with at least 2 years in a supervisory capacity
  • AALAS certification at the LATg level and CVT certification is preferred but not required
  • Prior experience and knowledge with laboratory rabbits and breeding is preferred
  • Must be able to work in a fast paced team-oriented production environment with attentiveness to detail and accuracy
  • Strong attention to detail and compliance with Good Documentation Practices (GDP)
  • Strong analytical skills to resolve problems and recommend solutions
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow written and verbal instructions
  • Demonstrated understanding of applicable animal care and use guidelines under which LFB USA operates
  • Demonstrated commitment to teamwork and ability to lead and motivate staff
  • Ability to push/pull wheeled carts weighing up to 500 pounds
  • Ability to lift and manipulate up to 50 pounds
  • Duties may require long periods of standing and/or sitting for an average of six hours a day
  • Ability to work in spaces as narrow as two feet
  • May be exposed to materials and chemicals that are potentially allergenic
  • Duties require actions that involve repetitive motion, to include that of hands and wrists
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with other personnel regarding all aspects of operations.

Scope: Receives assignments in the form of objectives with goals and the process by which to meet goals. Provides direction to employees according to established policies and management guidance. Administers company policies. Management reviews work to ensure objectives are met.
Complexity: Exercises judgment within defined procedures and policies to determine appropriate action.
Impact: Erroneous decisions or failure to achieve results will cause delay in schedules or increased cost.
Interaction: Frequently interacts with direct reports and functional peer groups. Interaction normally requires the ability to gain cooperation of others and provide information concerning specific projects or schedules.
Supervision: Provides direct supervision to individual contributors. Assigns work and eliminates difficulties in meeting objectives. May become actively involved to meet schedules and resolve problems. May provide input to employee performance evaluations.
