What are the responsibilities and job description for the Field Biologist position at LGL?
LGL is accepting applications for a Field Biologist to be hired on a permanent or seasonal basis depending on experience. The position will be located in Ellensburg WA, but the candidate must be willing and able to travel for work, which could include international travel to support on-going projects in British Columbia, Canada. The ideal candidate will be willing to do biological field work (which includes work outdoors, sometimes in inclement conditions, sometimes for long hours, and sometimes on weekends). The position will require a degree of flexibility and independence, but will also require the ability to work within a field crew to support various project needs. Experience working on a boat crew and/or as a boat captain would be considered an asset. Candidate needs to be proficient with computers (Excel, Word, databases, R) would be considered an asset. Qualified candidates with five or more years of technical field experience can be considered for a permanent position. Seasonal candidates will have the potential to become full time depending on performance, capabilities, and project workload.
Responsibilities:
· Field data collection with attention to detail and accuracy
· Support the installation and maintenance of telemetry and other scientific equipment which requires a general proficiency using computers as well as hand and power tools
· Assist fish tagging crews which includes data entry, fish handling and husbandry
· Download, troubleshoot, and diagnose field data collection equipment
· Work as crew member on a research setline fishing boat, including baiting, and pulling lines and processing fish (White Sturgeon)
· Potential to support data management, analytical, and reporting tasks
Qualifications:
Undergraduate degree (or higher) in fisheries, wildlife, biology, natural resources, environmental science or related required. Preferred 1-3 years of work experience or internships for a seasonal position and 5 or more years for the permanent position (completion of a graduate degree can substitute for direct work experience). Also required: ability to lift/carry up to 50 lbs (23 kg), valid driver’s license, passport, and ability to legally enter Canada for work, and the ability to complete a swift water safety certification (i.e., a confident swimmer).

Pay: $22.00 - $32.00 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 40 per week
