Job Description
The purpose of a Terminal Manager is to oversee the operations of a terminal facility, ensuring that all operations are efficient, safe, and cost-effective. This includes managing the terminal staff, monitoring the equipment and systems, and ensuring compliance with regulations. The Terminal Manager must also manage the daily operations of the terminal, including loading and unloading operations, maintenance and repair of equipment, and ensuring the safety of personnel. This role requires strong organizational and communication skills, as well as the ability to problem solve and quickly respond to any issues that may arise.
Supervisory Responsibilities
The Terminal Manager supervises the terminal Administrative Assistant and all drivers assigned to his/her terminal.
Responsibilities:
- Leadership and Team Management: Supervise and develop a strong team through effective communication, training, coaching, counseling, appraisal, and recognition
- Operational Excellence: Manage the operation with integrity to achieve key performance goals, monitor, analyze, and improve primary variables impacting operating revenue and costs, and act with a sense of urgency to achieve exceptional performance
- Customer Partnership: Build a strong partnership with customers through regular professional communication, problem-solving, and relationship-building, continually assessing service performance levels, and taking timely action to remove performance barriers
- Maintenance: Partner with maintenance team to proactively ensure equipment is well maintained, limiting down time while managing cost effectiveness.
- Safety and Compliance: Promote and monitor employee safety, take proactive steps to create a positive safety culture, partner with customers, internal, and external resources to identify, evaluate, and remove safety obstacles, ensuring compliance with safety programs, protocols, federal, state, and local regulations
- Training and Development: Ensure all team members are properly trained and compliant with standard processes and procedures
- Recruiting/Retention: Recommend and initiate personnel actions such as hiring, promotions, transfers, discharges, and disciplinary measures
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

- Ability to multitask and stay organized while exchanging information with a variety of audiences.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Microsoft Excel.
- Proficiency or ability to quickly learn how to navigate software systems.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Transportation, Logistics, Supply Chain or equivalent experience
- 3-5 years of transportation industry experience with a minimum of two years supervisory experience
- CDL with tanker hazmat endorsement not required but preferred
- Experience with cryogenic liquids, including liquid nitrogen and liquid oxygen, not required but preferred
Physical Requirements
Physical demands include but are not limited to, standing, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying, reaching, handling, kneeling, crouching and bending.
Other physical demands include remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods. Occasionally, moving about to accomplish tasks or collaborate with others. Communicating with others to exchange information. Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers. Assessing accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned. Sedentary work and light work that includes moving objects up to 20 pounds.
