What are the responsibilities and job description for the RTC Milieu Counselor position at LGTC Group?
LGTC Group is seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team as a Milieu Counselor at our Eating Disorder Residential Treatment Center (RTC) in San Jose CA, to join our facility focused on the treatment of teens with varying eating disorders disorders. The ideal candidate for this position will have experience working in a 24-hour care facility and will be able to communicate effectively with patients and other medical professionals. The ED Milieu Counselor is a vital part of our team, so we're looking for someone with experience and training in managing clients with eating disorders in an RTC setting.
We are looking for part-time and full-time candidates for morning and evening shifts, Saturday availability is required.
Responsibilities:
As a Milieu Counselor, you will play a pivotal role in supporting our clients throughout their treatment journey, from admission to discharge. Your responsibilities include:
- Welcoming new clients and introducing them to their primary treatment team.
- Assessing and communicating any unique needs of new clients to the treatment team and ensuring those needs are addressed.
- Contributing insightful, practical, and meaningful information to support the client’s behavior, mood, and healing process.
- Modeling positive dietary behaviors by joining clients during mealtimes.
- Promoting the well-being of all clients by serving as a positive role model in terms of dress, grooming, communication, and behavior.
- Facilitating the execution of the treatment plan established by the client’s treatment team and providing day-to-day support.
- Leading therapeutic groups covering topics such as coping skills, relapse prevention, DBT, psychoeducation, mindfulness, and life skills.
- Attending weekly multi-disciplinary team meetings and sharing essential client progress information with the treatment team. Assist with meals, dishes, and bathroom observations.
- Document patient information.
- Communicate with patients in a warm and professional manner.
- Convey a positive attitude toward patients, families, and co-workers.
- The ability to maintain safety, stay calm, and de-escalate clients in crisis.
- Maintaining a clean environment for clients by cleaning throughout the day (e.g., washing dishes, sweeping, vacuuming, encouraging clients to pick up after themselves).
- Cooking meals for clients and following the dietitian’s meal plan.
- Eating meals and snacks with clients and demonstrating appropriate eating behaviors
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university or equivalent work experience.
- Commitment to attending all training, education, and staff enrichment activities.
- Ability to work weekends.
- Strong time management skills and ability to work in an interdisciplinary team.
- Compose, edit, and format written communications, reports, and documentation in clear, grammatically correct English.
Desired Qualifications:
- Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking Spanish
- One year of experience in working with children, mental health, counseling, substance abuse, or in a residential treatment center
- CPR/BLS Certification
- California Food Handler’s Certification
