Responsibilities
The Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA, OTA) provides occupational therapy to patients in their homes to restore their physical abilities. This role involves following policies and procedures, as well as the established plan of care.
- To follow state-specific laws governing occupational therapy in home care, while only executing treatment plans defined by the supervising OT.
- To instruct and aid patients in evidence-based treatments within the scope of the occupational therapy assistant, according to state laws.
- To observe, record, and report patient responses to treatment and changes in condition to the supervising OT, nurse supervisor, and/or physician.
- To coordinate care with other healthcare team members as necessary.
Education and Experience
Requirements include:
- Current OTA licensure in the state
- Current CPR certification
- Current driver's license and vehicle insurance, with access to a dependable vehicle or public transportation
