What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Accountant position at LHC Group?
Summary
The Senior Accountant is responsible for applying accounting principles and procedures to analyze financial information, prepare accurate and timely financial reports, and ensure appropriate accounting control procedures.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and post journal entries for assigned system revenue imports and accruals. Attach appropriate support for the journal entry and sign off on all journal entries when complete.
- Prepare monthly variance analysis on revenue and bad debt. Communicate variances found to appropriate individuals.
- Communicate effectively with other departments as well as outside vendors, consultants, etc.
- Respond appropriately and timely on all financial statement questions.
- Reconcile all assigned balance sheet accounts within the designated timeframe. Maintain appropriate support for all balances.
- Prepare monthly JV packets on assigned locations.
- Regularly review Accounts Receivable balances and follow up with staff regarding reconciling items and timely resolution.
- Prepare assigned quarterly and annual audit work papers. Maintain controls in compliance with Sarbanes Oxley.
- Prepare schedules and work papers as requested by external auditors.
- Review and sign off on all journal entries prepared by assigned accountants and/or interns.
- Provide training to staff accountants and/or interns.
- Assist supervisor with review procedures to ensure the accuracy of the financial statements.
- Ensure all financial reporting deadlines are met.
- Adhere to all departmental policies and procedures.
- Maintain excellent communication with supervisor, other department personnel, and other home office personnel.
- Any other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
Experience Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance.
- Minimum of two years of accounting experience; healthcare experience preferred.
Skill Requirements
- Must be highly skilled in use of Excel.
- Must possess high attention to detail and excellent analytical skills.
- Must possess excellent work habits, including a willingness to work the hours necessary to get the job done, especially when important deadlines cause greater than normal departmental pressures.
- Must possess good communication skills and be able to work within a collaborative team environment.
- Must possess personal initiative and leadership skills.
