LHH IS partnering with a client to hire a detail-oriented and reliable Payroll Specialist for a contract opportunity in San Francisco, CA. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely processing of payroll for employees, managing employee payroll inquiries, and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in payroll processing, a deep understanding of relevant tax laws, and the ability to manage payroll systems and data with precision.
PLEASE NOTE : All duties for this role performed at the client’s office in San Francisco, California.
Key Responsibilities :
Process bi-weekly or monthly payroll for all employees, ensuring accurate and timely payments.
Verify timecard entries, bonuses, commissions, and other forms of compensation.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations, including proper deductions and withholding.
Maintain and update employee payroll records, including tax forms, deductions, and garnishments.
Collaborate with HR and accounting departments to resolve payroll discrepancies and issues.
Prepare and submit payroll tax filings and reports to government agencies in a timely manner.
Ensure compliance with company policies, labor laws, and applicable wage and hour laws.
Prepare year-end reports such as W-2s, 1099s, and other tax documents.
Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll, benefits, and deductions, and provide excellent customer service.
Assist with audits and other compliance-related tasks as needed.
Assist with benefits administration, including enrollment and deductions.
Qualifications :
2 years of experience in payroll processing, preferably in a large or complex environment.
Strong knowledge of payroll systems and software (e.g., ADP, Paychex, or similar platforms).
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other office software.
Excellent understanding of federal, state, and local tax laws, wage and hour regulations, and payroll compliance requirements.
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with employees at all levels.
Ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines with minimal supervision.
Experience with garnishments, benefits, and union contracts is a plus.
Payroll certification (e.g., CPP or FPC) is preferred but not required.
Additional Requirements :
High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
Knowledge of the California state labor laws and payroll-specific regulations is a plus.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with strong organizational skills.
