LHH is partnered with a rapidly growing PE portfolio company as they are seeking a Chief Accounting Officer. The company has over 50 locations and is actively pursuing M&A, aiming for a significant increase in valuation in the near term. With a newly hired CFO, the organization is building out a centralized accounting/finance function headquartered in the Oakbrook area.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting, including financial reporting, internal controls, and compliance. This role requires a forward-thinker with excellent leadership skills and the ability to work collaboratively across departments. The Chief Accounting Officer will play a critical role in building out a centralized, gold standard accounting and reporting team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee and manage all accounting functions, including financial reporting, internal controls, and compliance
- Ensure accurate and timely consolidated financial reporting in compliance with GAAP and other regulatory requirements
- Lead the annual audit process and liaise with external auditors and serve as the point person for the outside tax service provider, ensuring compliance with tax regulations and optimizing tax strategies
- Lead the development and implementation of a centralized accounting function to streamline processes and improve efficiency across the organization
- Build and lead a high-performing accounting team, providing training, mentorship, and development opportunities to support the company's growth and strategic objectives
- Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets
- Develop and implement accounting policies and procedures
- Manage the treasury function, including cash management, owning banking relationships, debt compliance, and cash flow forecasting
- Lead M&A accounting integration efforts, ensuring seamless integration of acquired entities into the company's financial systems and processes
- Collaborate with the M&A team to assess the financial impact of potential acquisitions and provide accounting insights during due diligence
- Work closely with the FP&A function to drive an accurate and insightful budget and forecasting process
- Prepare for liquidity event by ensuring the company is financially positioned to meet its obligations and capitalize on opportunities

Qualifications:
- Minimum of 15 years of experience in accounting, with time spent in a senior leadership role.
- Experience supporting private equity-backed companies or similar environments experiencing a high rate of change desirable.
- CPA certification is required.
- Public accounting experience highly preferred.
- Experience leading a centralization or build-out of an accounting function.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and accounting principles.
