As a Corporate Tax Manager, you will play a vital role in managing and overseeing all aspects of corporate tax compliance and planning for our company in the Chicago area. You will be responsible for ensuring compliance with tax laws and regulations, minimizing tax liabilities, and optimizing our tax strategies. Additionally, you will lead a team of tax professionals, collaborate with various internal stakeholders, and work closely with external tax advisors.
Responsibilities:
- Tax Compliance: Oversee and manage all aspects of corporate tax compliance, including the timely and accurate preparation and filing of federal, state, and local tax returns.
- Tax Planning and Strategy: Develop and implement tax planning strategies to minimize tax liabilities and optimize our tax positions. Stay updated on changes in tax laws, regulations, and industry practices, and provide guidance to senior management on the potential impact of these changes.
- Financial Reporting: Collaborate with the finance and accounting teams to ensure accurate tax provisions and disclosures in financial statements, as well as compliance with relevant accounting standards (e.g., ASC 740).
- Transfer Pricing: Manage transfer pricing policies and documentation, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and coordination with international tax teams.
- Audit Support: Coordinate and lead tax audits, responding to inquiries from tax authorities, and providing necessary documentation and explanations.
- Team Management: Provide leadership and guidance to a team of tax professionals, including goal setting, performance management, training, and development.
- Risk Management: Assess tax risks, identify areas of potential exposure, and implement controls and processes to mitigate risks effectively.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Collaborate with internal stakeholders, such as legal, finance, treasury, and business units, to ensure tax considerations are incorporated into decision-making processes and transactions.
- External Relationships: Manage relationships with external tax advisors, consultants, and tax authorities to ensure compliance and obtain expert advice when needed.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements, automation, and efficiency gains within the tax function, and drive their implementation.
Requirements:
- Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or advanced degree in taxation preferred. A minimum of 8-10 years of relevant experience in corporate tax, including managerial or supervisory responsibilities.
- In-depth Tax Knowledge: Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations, as well as experience with tax planning, compliance, and provision work. Familiarity with international tax concepts and transfer pricing is desirable.
- Leadership and Team Management: Proven experience in leading and managing a team of tax professionals, including performance management, coaching, and development.
- Analytical and Strategic Thinking: Ability to analyze complex tax issues, develop effective tax strategies, and provide insightful recommendations to senior management.
- Communication and Collaboration: Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively communicate complex tax concepts to non-tax professionals. Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.
- Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail and accuracy, particularly in reviewing tax returns, provisions, and other tax-related documents.
- Technology Proficiency: Proficiency in tax software applications and strong MS Excel skills. Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and tax automation tools is a plus.
- Adaptability and Prioritization: Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple priorities, and adapt to changing business and regulatory requirements.
