Job Description:
As the Director of Quality, you will be responsible for ensuring the highest quality standards of products through the development and verification of food safety and quality systems. You will lead the Quality Assurance team, develop quality policies that align with SQF code, improve current programs, and implement new ones. Your role will involve overseeing risk assessments, implementing preventative measures to maintain product safety and quality, and ensuring compliance with SQF certification requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee and maintain systems to assure facility meets all SQF certification requirements, including document control, records, specifications, food safety and quality, verification, product identification, trace and recall, food safety fundamentals, training needs of personnel, building design and construction, HACCP, and prerequisite programs.
- Create, manage, and ensure compliance with the internal audit schedule, conduct supplier audits, and oversee results of internal food safety audits.
- Partner with Operations, Sales, Supply Chain, and Engineering to manage the quality database, audit production quality and customer standards, and implement system improvements.
- Ensure compliance by monitoring programs, policies, procedures, SOPs, audit documentation, improvement plans, and training.
- Oversee and coordinate the testing of new items and product launches from production to shipping.
- Assure quality products and processing by enforcing quality standards and testing materials and products.
- Mentor and coach quality staff, and interface with customers on product quality or customer quality concerns.
- Foster a collaborative and quality-focused culture by engaging with other departments and identifying areas of process improvement.
- Stay updated on USDA, FDA, and governmental standards, and drive continuous improvement initiatives across the manufacturing process to ensure and enhance product quality.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated leadership abilities with strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Cross-collaborative and interpersonal communication skills.
- Experience with SQF, USDA, FDA audits.
- Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly, paying attention to minute details.
- Critical thinking and time management skills.
- Process-oriented with a focus on continuous improvement.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Food Safety, Microbiology, Chemistry, Food Science, or related field required; Master's degree preferred.
- SQF Practitioner status required.
- Knowledgeable of FDA and/or USDA inspected manufacturer.
- 10 years of experience in related functions with demonstrated ability to work well with executive leadership and multiple departments.
- 2 years of experience in a manufacturing environment under USDA and/or FDA.
- 2 years of experience facilitating food safety and quality-related training events.
