The entry-level staff accountant is a key role within our Chicago-based corporation's finance department. As an entry-level staff accountant, you will play a vital role in supporting the financial operations of the organization, ensuring accurate and timely recording of financial transactions, and contributing to the overall success of the finance team.
Responsibilities:
- General Accounting:
- Assist in the preparation of financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
- Perform general ledger entries and reconciliations to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial data.
- Assist in month-end and year-end closing procedures.
- Maintain and update accounting records, including accounts payable and accounts receivable.
- Financial Reporting and Analysis:
- Assist in the preparation of financial reports and variance analysis.
- Help analyze financial data to identify trends, patterns, and discrepancies.
- Support the preparation of management reports, budgets, and forecasts.
- Assist with internal and external audit requests.
- Compliance and Controls:
- Ensure compliance with company policies, accounting principles, and relevant regulations.
- Assist in the implementation and maintenance of internal control procedures.
- Participate in the documentation and improvement of accounting processes.
- Collaboration and Support:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, such as finance, operations, and management, to gather financial data and support decision-making processes.
- Provide support during the annual budgeting and planning process.
- Assist with ad-hoc financial projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of basic accounting principles and financial concepts.
- Proficiency in MS Excel and other accounting software (knowledge of SAP, QuickBooks, or similar systems is a plus).
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
