What are the responsibilities and job description for the Manager, Glass Technology position at Libbey?
The Manager, Glass Technology is responsible for the long-term global batch and furnace operations of Libbey’s glass plants. Responsibilities will include leading the global Glass Technology CoE (Center of Excellence) by developing and executing the batch and furnace technology roadmap for the glass melting process and ensuring alignment with the company’s strategy. RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordinate with the Director, Glass & Furnace Technology, to establish and refine the technology roadmap for the glass melting process that support Libbey’s SLRP.
- Development and execution of a strategy for batch and glass technology for the future of each site in line with SLRP.
- Development and execution of Libbey’s technology strategy for current and new products.
- Follow the glass compositions and qualities of Libbey’s Global competitors.
- Responsible for manufacturing support for batch and glass operations.
- Responsible for Libbey’s laboratories in Toledo and Mexico
- Responsible to drive major programs like furnace life improvement on the process side, raw material use, glass cost reduction and decarbonization.
- Keeps track of worldwide industry trend on batch and furnace technology developments.
- Oversees budgeting, reporting, planning, and auditing of batch global systems.
- Identify, develop, train, support, and coach people for Libbey’s global batch and furnace field to ensure in time succession and maintain knowledge and competencies.
- Develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures, standard work, and associated training plans for the plants / teams.
- Builds and maintains alliances and contacts with other organizations and companies within the industry.
- Establishes standards and governance requirements for the global CoE of Glass Technology.
- Work closely with internal and external stakeholders. TRAVEL & LOCATION REQUIREMENTS
- Occasional, required domestic and international travel for project work, training, or other business-related purposes.
- Off hours can vary outside what would be considered normal business hours depending on project needs and geographic location (Asia-America). REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS
- Degree in Materials Science, Ceramic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or other related Engineering degree.
- Minimum 10 years of related work in batch and furnace operations.
- 5 years of experience managing technical teams, including proven experience coaching and directing technical people in various roles within a project-driven organization.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the glass melting process, glass chemistry and refractories.
- In-depth knowledge of environmental rules, regulations, and furnace emissions. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- Capable of staying abreast of innovative technologies and industry trends for raw materials and furnace melting processes.
- Excellent communication and presentation (verbal and written) skills with the ability to relate well to associates throughout all levels of the organization including presentations.
- Ability to lead and influence all levels and across the organization and drive continuous improvement and technology advancement. LEADERSHIP
- Ability to delegate, assign, and oversee tasks within the department and across project teams.
