Summary of Job:
The Newcomers Center Enrollment and Program Specialist plays a vital role in managing the enrollment of new students, ensuring compliance with district and state policies, including English as a Second Language (ESL), McKinney-Vento, and migrant education requirements. Key responsibilities include screening applications, collecting and assessing student records for previous detentions, retentions, and placements, and collaborating with school principals and other district staff to determine the appropriate school placement based on previous academic records. This position provides comprehensive support to students and their faimilies, ensuring a smooth transition into the district.

Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Academics
Essential Functions:
1. Manage the enrollment process for new students, including initial intake, document collection, and data entry.
2. Screen applications for eligibility, obtain and assess previous academic records and identify any special needs, including ESL, McKiney-Vento, and migrant education requirements. Conduct additional screenings as needed.
3. Collaborate with school principals and other district staff to determine appropriate school placements based on previous records and additional needs identified.
4. Provide support to students and families throughout the enrollment process, including assistance and support with necessary paperwork and community outreach.
5. Ensure all enrollment procedures comply with district, state and federal regulations, including those related to ESL, McKinney-Vento, and migrant education. Obtain training as needed and directed by supervisor.
6. Serve as the primary point of contact for new students and their families, providing clear and supportive communication throughout the enrollment process.
7. Interpret and translate as needed and at the discretion of supervisor.
8. Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and be a collaborative part of the team.
9. Perform other duties as assigned.
